Justice Minister Justice Soren Pape Poulsen said wearing the face-covering in public places is "incompatible" with Danish society.
“It is incompatible with the values of the Danish society or the respect for the community to keep the face hidden when meeting each other in the public space,” Poulsen said. “With a ban, we draw a line in the sand and establish that here in Denmark we show each other trust and respect by meeting each other face to face."
Support for the law stems largely from the Danish People’s Party, which will push through the legislation. However, all three parties expressed support for the ban this past October.

Stupid. If a woman wants to wear it, that's on her. If her family forces her to do so or if the government forces her to do so, I have a serious problem. If she is choosing it, then the government shouldn't intervene. It's no different than a jew wearing a yamaka.

I disagree 100%. After watching an event unfold in Australia where a Muslim woman accused a cop of trying to pull her veil off during a traffic stop. The cop's dash cam showed this to be a lie and they went after her for filing a false claim.
Wanna know what her defense was?
Prove it was me who filed the false report. You have a woman wearing a veil filing the report, but you cannot identify who it was.
There are instances in life where you do need to be identified. If the Danes think this is a national security issue, I 100% back them.

I think it's reasonable to require citizens in public to be identifiable by their face. It's part of basic human interaction. We like to know who we are interacting with and if everyone has their faces covered, we don't ever really know that.
It's especially dangerous for the police in identifying suspects in criminal investigations. What do you do if you can't tell Mary from Jill? Let them both go because you're not allowed to lift a veil?

If you want to move to another country and want the benefits of that country than you should respect that society and not try to change it to your own.
It's called assimilation in public...whatever you want to do in private is your business.
But given the state of affairs in Europe, this legislation could fall under as a safety measure. It's not unreasonable for a nation to ask its citizens to not hide in public - sort of freaks people out these days...so yeah, it's not like wearing a yarmulke; there are exceptions to public displays of "culture or faith." You can't gut a Goat in a Town Square as part of a Voodoo ritual.
