I mean, is it evil because its cock and balls are showing? Or because it has horns? Or because it has a mysterious eye on its torso? Its an inanimate object, a hunk of metal, it has no powers, it can't hurt anyone.

Nah, I had plenty of love and I'm extremely well-educated. Sucks that you are stuck in another Satanic Panic.

Why don’t you leave this board you evil twisted prick?

You explain everything you represent and stand for by defending this statue.

I can’t argue with you because I don’t argue with evil idiots. But I will say AggieHank is likely a Pedo Groomer in Real Life.

I won’t respond to your reply, but screw off you weirdo

NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CAN DEFENS THIS STATUE. As a kid, I grew up around the K&B building, and the fact they are shaming that spot with this twisted BS, shows how fricked we are as a Society

I'm sure you don't care, but just to bring some facts to this place, I did the research.

The piece is called "Male Beast 1990." The artist is Russian scupltor Grisha Bruskin. Bruskin was known during the Soviet era for rejecting Soviet standards for art that glorifies the state and excluded religious iconography. Most of his work parodied Soviet state symbols and included Jewish and Hasidic symbolism.

So he was quite the subversive and had his work suppressed by the Soviet system. I'll leave further interpretation to your keen minds.

But carry on.....

No, it can be completely distasteful and artistic all at the same time. That's art. It's subjective.

However, there does seem to be a "non-traditional" cultural shift towards the demonic in all aspects of artistic (ex: music, sculpture) and a moving away from "traditional" founding and cultural christian values.

To me, it's just distasteful, doesn't add intrinsic value to the demographic, and I don't think it is befitting to be viewed by minors.

FWIW, it appears that you are correct and this piece is a reproduction of a smaller work by Brushkin which is on display at Rutgers. The statuary garden in New Orleans DOES include pieces by Noguchi, but this is not a Noguchi piece.

Wow! That movie totally weirded me out when I was a kid. I think it came out in 1972 or 1974 if I recall correctly.

Great flick. Weirded me out too. Probably gonna rewatch it now.

I doubt Besthoff purchased a "reproduction." The one at Rutgers is copper; the one in New Orleans is stainless steel, probably because it is exhibited outside.

You are correct. Poor choice of words on my part.

The Rutgers piece predates this one by five years. The artist clearly crafted the stainless piece based upon the earlier copper piece, but it is not a "reproduction" in the sense of a "knock-off."

Apologies for the lack of clarity in confirming/supporting your earlier post.

Good info. I'm still surprised that Noguchi has pieces in New Orleans.

credit where it is due. NewBR found it.

Before you posted the Noguchi reference, I had tried unsuccessfully to find the piece's artist. Searching on that statuary garden DID show that piece, with a description that made reference to a Noguchi fountain and ten Noguchi pieces, but it did NOT reference that piece as being a Noguchi. The style was pretty different to me, so I just assumed that it was someone else, until you made the Noguchi attribution.

NewBR's reference to the name of the work made it easy to track the Rutgers piece and get the additional details.

To be fair, someone else said it was a Noguchi piece, and I said that made it even more cool without looking into it. Given Noguchi's abstraction, that piece would be surprising given his oeuvre. I remain highly amused that a bunch of chuds on a forum who pontificate about Western Civilization are also so easily led into another Satanic Panic.

Seems weird your gay-arse brought up the erection. Also I have no idea who you are. I guess I need to start making a list of morons on this forum who are mad at me for 'reasons.'
