So after all the drama of the last few months, did the Democrats accomplish anything beyond virtue-signaling to their base? And the resounding answer is: No.

quote:

After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pledged not to give Trump even a dollar for his wall, Democrats agreed to hand him $1.375 billion to build a 55-mile long barrier in the Rio Grande Valley. They also agreed to hand the Department of Homeland Security an additional $1.7 billion for border security, including more officers, more technology at ports of entry

quote:

Handing Trump some wall money might have been worth it if Democrats had got something in return like legalizing the DREAMers (folks who've grown up in America after being brought to the country without proper authorization as minors) and others whose temporary protected status Trump scrapped. But Democrats failed to even put this on the table despite many hints by Republicans that they would consider a DREAMer-for-wall deal. Nor did they make the wall money conditional on Trump refraining from declaring a national emergency, which he's been hinting at for months.

quote:

So, all in all, Trump got more money for a border barrier, enhanced border security, and increased detention capacity. And he'll declare a national emergency to get the rest of what he wants. What did Democrats get? Absolutely nothing. Zilch. Nada.

This is from Reason, which is pretty much anti-wall and no fan of Trump.

They are incredibly stupid. They should have given him the wall and the other immigration reforms for DACA in January 2017. By 2020 it would have been a non-issue and they could run on health care and shite. Instead they get nothing and it will continue to be an issue for the 2020 election since they’ll be seen as nothing but obstructionists, and it will be a losing issue for them yet again.

They lost actually. Political capital. Trump will beat them over the head in 2020 for being pro-open borders.

Dems don't want to solve the DACA issue they want it to continue to be a wedge issue to call R's racist.

I wish more would realize this.

The Dems have had ample opportunity to codify DACA in some form under Trump and have done nothing with it.

Dems didnt want DACA for the sole reason that Trump offered it and actually offered to increase it by 50%

It scared the hell out of the Democrats because those Daca Recipients would end as likely voting Republican as Democrat when they finally get the vote.

Conservative pundits were saying that Trump was done if he signed the bill. Now that he has signed it, all of a sudden its great for Trump. It's humorous to watch.

I know it has been posted many times on the board. The $1.375 billion is to go to Rio Grande Valley where they are finishing the 50 to 60 miles of fence from Secure Fence Act of 2006 and it Amendments.

That means Trump is not getting any money for his own wall.

The $1.7 billion is something both sides wanted.

Dems didn’t get their ICE beds reduced. They didn’t get anything added about DACA but they really didn’t try to add it to this budget bill.

Reality is Trump got no funding for his own wall and Dems got nothing about the ICE beds.

Dems didn’t run on ICE beds.
Trump campaigned hard on the wall

Be honest who was the biggest loser on the this years Budget?

What about the provision that allows unaccompanied minors to enter the country and then allow anyone who later claims and sort of kinship to come in also??

I haven't read the specifics fo the bill, but I keep hearing about this - is it a true situation?? - if so, the bills would have been vetoed.

Is the 'right wing hype' true or misleading or made up??

Anyone know the specifics of this??

Correct. But you can extend this attitude to the Swamp as a whole. They don’t want to solve any problem. They derive more power as a result of perpetual conflict. They are the Political Industrial Complex.
