As long as it isn't the government punishing free speech, it should still be known that there are potential consequences for behaviors.
If one stands up in a movie theater and shouts out a spoiler for the movie right before it begins, you think this should be fine to do, consequence free, in a civilized society? I don't...that's someone who needs their arse kicked.
Imagine how much more inflammatory burning a flag is in front of a combat veteran who might have been injured or lost good friends fighting for that flag and what it represents.
Bottom line, if you know you're going to act like an a-hole...don't get upset when you catch backlash.

Is is the fact that many muslim countries persecute homosexuals, if not murder them outright? Is it the fact that many muslim countries oppress, batter, abuse, and denigrate women? Is it the fact that a large percentage of muslims believe that their religion instructs them to kill non-believers?

Reminder that muslims have been slaughtering non-believers by the millions, since the Middle Ages. I don’t know of anyone sane who supports murder for disrespecting the flag, and neither do you.
