Like I said, I think he conducted himself like a douchebag. But Murray has spoken and written extensively on a wide variety of social/cultural/political/demographic issues for 2+ decades and has often been well ahead of the curve/mainstream on those. He's smart and it strikes me as silly to believe otherwise.
I've never heard Dave Smith say anything particularly insightful or novel, even if I agree with him on plenty of stuff. Sometimes there are people who largely regurgitate other ideas but do it in a more approachable/compelling/etc. way, and frankly, I don't see that from Smith either.

Dave has his faults but his complete dismantling of Chris Cuomo on PBD was a thing of beauty. Cuomo still hasn’t recovered.

While I agree his ideas aren’t typically novel ones, he’s probably currently one of the best and most effective vehicles of said ideas.

In a sense, but at what cost?
To me that's like saying MAGA influencer accounts are effective vehicles of the ideas underlying the new right.
I agree they get some of the concepts out there, but if they're contorted and meekly evidenced but said in a way that resonates with a particular audience, is that a win?
Electorally, maybe (see the influencers for Trump). But in terms of ideological roots to pay long term dividends - I'm much less certain. We're almost creating competing, dumber shadows of good ideas that seem inevitable to war with one another.

Debate bros like Smith aren’t looking for any truth or enlightenment. They’ve found a vehicle to gain clicks a popularity and they use tactics like deflections, reframing, trick boxes that the click bait shows they go on love because idiots flock to stuff like that. He never wins an argument or debate and anyone with any knowledge embarrasses him. A lot of us predicted that the “podcast election” would have consequences and the rise of idiot influencers is the first consequence.

It was pretty easy to be an isolationist in 1796. It took 2-3 months to cross the ocean back then. It is incredibly intellectually dishonest to think isolationism in 1796 and 2025 are even remotely comparable.
