Douglas Murray is an elitist British psychopath
Posted on 4/11/25 at 6:29 am to stuntman
I was very saddened by this episode.
Douglas Murray has been one of my favorite podcast and TV guests and authors for going on a decade. I listen to Part of the Problem (Dave Smith’s podcast) every morning while I get ready for work. I think they’re both incredibly intelligent. But even more importantly, they both demonstrate an ability to think critically and not be blinded to logic because of a stance they take.
Or used to, anyway. Murray has bought in completely to the Israeli narrative on the war. He’s correct that they’re the modern society and their population are the good guys. That has blinded him to any argument that they fight a monster of their own creation. Because of his mental block on ANY argument for Palestinian sympathy, he goes on the attack of anyone he perceives as the “enemy.”
Dave Smith went into this conversation attempting to find common ground. Murray rebuked him at every turn. Weakly at that. His “appeal to authority” and “regular guys shouldn’t talk about this stuff” arguments are directly contradicting. The dude is insanely smart and one of the most rhetorically gifted people on earth. But when you only rely on wit and not substance, it shows. That’s what he did on this episode. And he added a healthy dose of pretentious snob to the mix.

Just finished.
this was my main takeaway. you could tell that Murray thought Smith was beneath him the whole time. at the end Smith was thanking him for standing up against covid and mass migration in the UK and Murray was just "i got to go to DC."
super disappointed in him, and i tend to be swayed more to the Hamas is a giant a-hole and Israel is somewhat justified, but Murray actually harmed that argument. It's usually the one area where i disagree with Smith the most on.

A)smith is a jew
B) I've never heard him once blame Jews for anything ever. His ire is solely at the Country of Israel and their actions. I don't even agree with him entirely for his disdain for Israel, but I've never heard him attack Jews.
You might want to watch more of his content then. I know he's a Jew but there are some misguided Jews that blame Israel for everything and go out of their way to prove they're not "zionists." He's one of those.

Murray has made it clear that having conversations with people such as Smith are beneath him.
Ive agreed with Murray in the past. But he doesn't help his own cause in this conversation, at all. He absolutely has a blind spot when jt comes to discussing this topic.
People are allowed to disagree, of course. But it's very sophomoric to wave away someone's argument because of who that person is, and Murray did this with Smith, Cooper, and Ian Carroll.

This tweet sums it up perfectly.

If tweet fails to load, click here. TLDR; Those who don't know shite, are fans of Dave. People who actually possess knowledge and the ability to think, agree with Murray.

I thought Murray wasn’t nearly as bad as this thread made him out to be after the first 40 mins.
I’m also 110% a bigger fan of his work than Dave’s and I often find Dave a bit of a blowhard know it all.
I actually liked Dave in this episode more than I normally do.
I do agree with Murray’s underlying point of the first 40 mins that we basically need better experts and the right is more and more frequently flirting with the political equivalent of bro science. I just think he expressed it pretty poorly for him.
I also don’t think either guy was nearly as worked up as some of the posters in this thread.

This is hilarious, you are every bit as gullible as the lunatics on the left.
Murray’s opening argument was criticizing Rogan for not having “experts” on his show to counter the arguments being made against these wars. Murray had three hours to counter Dave’s arguments and did absolutely nothing except argue semantics. He embarrassed himself, and it was obvious to people who actually watched the episode.

Murray came out the gate pretty aggressively, and with very little substance other than whow me your CV before I even listen to you. He's a bit of a self important twat it seems. Lots of bad premises.
I only listened to about 10 minutes.

Did you watch the episode? If so, please share Murray’s best argument. Or maybe just one argument? Trying to make this easy for you.

Sigh.
Instead of parroting attacks against him, I strongly recommend you listen to his series.
Cooper isn't antisemitic; he calls balls and strikes, and does so with aplomb. His New Jerusalem series does a fantastic job tightroping the Jewish, Palestinian, and English take on the Zionist movement, and the persepctives of all three. Hell, Cooper spends almost an entire episode praising the Jewish effort to revive and create modern Hebrew, and making it into a functional language of their own, as opposed to importing English, German, or Yiddish. It's a remarkable feat that Cooper waxes eloquently and lovingly at its marvel. Hardly antisemitic.
This is no better than Murray, who refuses to listen to someone's work while also criticizing it as being unserious.
