Chrome this is my first post in this thread but I’ve checked it everyday since you started it and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the hard work you have done . Thanks.

i'll echo this. i keep seeing nothing but positive (morally positive) trend lines on your data but everybody else is beating the "be afraid" moniker. seeing the whole picture with just flat numbers is way more helpful than headlines.
my local paper just keeps pumping out ambiguous headlines about how bad things are still here, "Bell County adds 2 deaths. 15 new cases in schools"... county of almost 400k people with 70 deaths... and only one death under 50.
local news is just as shite as national news.
appreciate you keeping it updated.

honest question, is this data trustworthy?
Posted on 10/1/20 at 1:26 pm to Chicken
It's as trustworthy as it gets for COVID data. The source for the data is widely used and quoted.
From the start, I've tried to present the data in a nonbiased way to allow people to make their own decisions and draw their own conclusions.
So, to answer your question, I don't know how trustworthy the data is, but I'm not aware of any better source.

I look at the daily growth map to see where the virus is less contained. It’s currently in big sky country. There’s a little seepage in the Midwest.
We seem to be past the worst. The data doesn’t back date with actual cases though. I’ve always assumed this stay was more of lagging indicator.

The data with this was always going to be lagging. With death certificate harvesting, it’s even worse.
The average time from death to reporting of the death is currently 45 days. That means that what we’re looking at for deaths is over 6 weeks old.
Which is ridiculous when we’re using it to guide daily decisions.

Yep, that is THE intrinsic limitation with the data aggregation sites, all they track is the delta from day to day. Georgia has done a good job with showing the "actual" metrics, but they are subsequently ignored in media reporting. Not watching other states as closely, but I know not all states are tracking in this manner. That is a ridiculous number of days to report deaths too.
I flew off the handle on some folks during the school reopening debates over the summer, as the data was clear that we were on the downswing long before my daughter sat at her desk for the first time in mid August. They pulled reporting data from the MSM and ran with it. Frustrating.

Why are more people randomly getting tested?
