Pretty good day nationally.
deaths, positivity, hospitalizations, etc all down.

Georgia took a huge bite out of hospitalizations today. Had another big spike yesterday (not sure why, TBH, after the bump last week due to how CTP does hospitalizations now) then an equally dramatic fall today. 445 up yesterday, down 538 today, nearly half of the national drop. No need to make any commentary on data quirks like this.
Also, for states where you can easily drill down, you can see that college testing is driving the bump / flattening the past couple of weeks. For instance, Clarke County in Georgia is showing a massive increase while the rest of the state continues to fall. Lee and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama are doing the same. Get through the college bump and the march downward should continue, without any bump in deaths.

I'm cautious only because of the Holiday weekend and some after effects of Hurricane Laura for Louisiana and Texas - but I mostly agree that we look to be on a positive trend after the mid-July - mid-August spike in cases and the uptick in deaths that followed.
Unfortunately, flu season will be here before we know it - how "good" or "bad" that is will make a helluva lot of difference as to how late Fall and early Winter goes.

I would be more embarrassed by that, but the epidemiologists haven’t done so great either.

To be blunt, you can safely ignore anything coming for IHME.

I agree with this, my daughter is in Oxford and half her sorority has tested positive. Systems are minor or nothing at all. Haven’t heard of any hospitalizations. Let it run its course so we can proceed with Football in a couple of weekends.

Do you notice that Europe was much more impacted than the US in the spring, and now it’s the other way around? Notice also, that when you look at the whole timeline we’re going to end up about equal? You are just making hay over the difference in timing. There is a certain amount of carnage that you’re going to get until herd immunity is approached. They got most of theirs out of the way early; we’re catching up.

My grandfather passed away last night from cancer. He tested positive for COVID a few days ago. Will he be counted in the death statistics?

Yes.
Sorry for your loss.

Overall, yes, we're catching up, but it's complicated, because some European countries are keeping cases low (like Germany, Scandinavia, and surprisingly Italy - we'll pass them in deaths per capita in the next couple of days), while Spain & France are bouncing back to cases per capita similar to where we are.
It seems we still have more than 80% of the US population susceptible to this infection, so hundreds of thousands of potential avoidable deaths through the end of this pandemic (this is also true in Europe). Remember, GEOTUS believes a working vaccine may get approved even before the election and we know he speaks the TRUTH!

I wonder why democrats want people to die.

If you say you don't look at cases and deaths hoping they go up, you are lying.

Don't be silly. I hope our leaders sing from the same hymnal and start implementing best practices to suppress this pandemic, and unless something very strange happens, I'll be one of the first to get the vaccine should it be approved and will encourage others to get it as well.

Doc, things are definitely trending in right direction
National Positivity rate going down to where it was before the second surge
Hospitalizations are plummeting
Only 158 new cases reported today in Arizona (only 3.5% positivity rate)

lmfao - seriously, you have to be certifiably retarded to be on the faux-crisis train at this point in time.
By the way, good news on the COVID IS GONNA KILL US ALL front from Arizona today. The virus continues to raise people from the dead. This morning we reported somewhere between 10 and 30 resurrections that are being attributed to COVID-19. And it's not the first time we've reported negative deaths, which is all you need to know about the credibility of "COVID stats."
