Knox County, TN is reporting it. Right now we have had 83 cases, 13 hospitalized and 43 recovered. 1 death

Half have recovered. They’ve tested 1115 people

Not that he was there on a pleasure cruise, but did your friend have anything to report about the general conditions he saw while there?

One thing that has struck me, because I am a laboratorian, is the confusion caused by the lab reporting data. It should not be an issue of having more tests reported this day or that day because of a back-log of tests one day and catching up with the testing.
I can assure you the time and DATE OF COLLECTION is on every specimen and in the lab's computer system. As well as the time arrived at the testing site, and the time of the final result. And probably several more times.
This data should be reported to the authorities by DATE OF COLLECTION not by date of RESULT. Like I said this is in every system. Of course, what this would mean are previous reported numbers would change for a few days. And its too late I reckon to change the system.

The government / CDC labs were doing this, but the private labs have been very inconsistent on reporting. It wasn't until recently that we learned Quest Diagnostics had been collecting twice as many samples as they could collect for weeks. Hospitals and doctors need these results faster to handle patient load.

In short Quest Diagnostics hid the problems they were causing while chasing public dollars, causing more information issues with COVID-19.

Further than that. Quest had a backlog of up to 12 days and tests done in the first 4 days (March 7 - 11) of collections have still not been fully run.

Fortunately some states like New York have set up their own systems and largely avoided the national private labs, but results all over the country over the last 14 days are suspect because of this one lab. If this continued we would have to wait up to 2 weeks to see where the virus was today.

ETA: I do understand that using numbers by date of sample would be much much better, but the private labs aren't sharing this information that I am aware of. Otherwise it would be very easy to see how far behind in processing the samples they are and bloody hell would be raised.
