I'm not convinced yet for today. We're only 63 deaths from having an increased growth rate for the day and only 2,395 cases away from an increasing case growth rate.

all true but considering we were worried about a rather significant increase earlier, it feels like a win to ease off to only a few tenths of a % increase over yesterday and it starts to semi-validate the lower numbers over the weekend

I was seriously concerned when I saw NY's noon numbers come in

eta: I expect death growth rates to increase for another week or so

I’m just hoping the final data dump tonight keeps the death total under 750 and new cases under 22,000.

So I thought identifying new was a good thing? Identity = quarantine? I mean I know it isn’t desirable to be spread but ..

I’m so over this crap. Just in general. I feel like this can’t be happening. It’s bizarro world.

How is the economy going to handle this for longer? I say that not for myself as we’ve both still got our income (mines down a little) but just in general??

+1

I never thought death would level off at the same time as new cases. Still probably lags a week or more behind. With all of the nursing home and assisted living home cases in the DFW area i wouldn't be surprised to see a death bump here in a week or so regionally.

Can these frickers give some demographic information about WHO is testing positive.

I dont GAS if someone under 50 tests positive.

The ONLY thing that matters are deaths and rates of hospilization

Sorry Dr. Burke is a buffoon to try to compare us to Italy and then to say "100,000 to 200,000 deaths" with mitigation. She has no idea and she's basing it off models.

I will be very surprised if we pass 150k known deaths before revision.

100k is in the cards.

All of which have been absurdly wrong so far. The IHME model that's now being pushed looks ridiculous so far, and when it's wrong and has greatly overstated hospitalizations and deaths over the past week, it's shifting the peak out instead of revising it down for some reason.

She's basing it off Italy.

It's moronic.

There's NO frickING way we go from 3,000+ deaths to 100,000 in 2 months.

I didn't even listen to her, I don't know what she said. her italy comparisons are not applicable

we wont go to 100k in 2 months, I agree. I meant before this is all said and done

No its not.

Jesus H Christ,Dr Birx is gonna cause mass panic on wall street and across the country.

Why doesn't she base it off Seattle or San Francisco?

I am starting to think the upper limit will be around the 80K that is in the UW/IHME model.

ETA: 30 - 60K is where I think we'll end up by Memorial Day with 80K being around the upper bound. I want to see how this thing does in Florida and Texas.

there are reasonable, educated posters here who have said we may hit the 3k/day death mark. I don't think we will, but if we do, we will definitely go over 100k deaths. you dont just have one day of 3k and then stop, you trend up, peak, and then trend down.

if 3k is our peak we will definitely hit 100k.

I think we will peak around 1800-2k deaths/day and 50-80kish total count before this is done. I would love to be wrong and it be even less.

DFW users seem to be the biggest culprit in my part of North Texas.

3280 cases, 50 deaths Statewide-Texas
