There really is upticks in certain spots of the country but others is really down. Numbers have been extremely low in New Orleans area since May. The Govenirs should not keep the entire state in phases when parts of states have reached herd immunity levels IMo

They tested 950k people today. We have been testing like 600k
Posted on 9/18/20 at 10:57 pm to Mrtommorrow1987
Texas. Texas alone reported ~100k tests today. They've single handedly screwed with the testing numbers this week. It's been the week of data frickery, no doubt. Side note: Their positivity on those 100k tests was <4%.

It’s data frickery.
Wrap your heads around the fact that this is all strategized and planned. States have an inventory of deaths they can retroactively label “COVID” sufficient to keep the daily death toll at about 1,000 up to the election. You can find this frickery in the data.
They’re changing how they count testing to keep new case counts robust. Here in AZ, last week we added over 2,000 positive cases that actually date back several weeks with a slight change to methodology.
This shitshow has been political since about Day 2, and they’re not even trying to mask that anymore.

What sort of sorcery is going on with the testing number right now? Over 2 million in the last two days.

CDC changed their recommendations back to testing asymptomatic.
Posted on 9/20/20 at 9:36 am to the808bass
Over 1M tests and only 4.2% positive.
Yeah that many tests were really necessary.

Maybe, but I'm not sure that alone would drive >50% more people to be tested over the last two days than what we had been seeing over the last few weeks. Large testing locations nationwide are being closed, not opened. And with the percent positive plummeting in those two days, seems we're running a lot of silly tests.
I would have bought this level of surge three or four weeks ago when colleges started testing everyone under the sun. Just seems...weird. Like the states that are driving the increase have suddenly located a bunch of negative tests and said "oh yeah, forgot about these."

Actually, it’s CMS requirements.
If you work in a nursing home or you’re a vendor operating there, 1/wk testing started this week.
I should’ve thought of that already.

What is up with MS’s positivity rate? It’s been astronomical for a while.

Yeah the employees working are tested every Thursday that work in SNF, REhab, Ltach, and Nursing homes.

Shaping up to be a very low Monday if things hold
Posted on 9/21/20 at 2:18 pm to Athanatos
Looks like it, but two of the Big 4 (Texas and Cali) are still on deck to report, and don't discount additional frickery that has been ultra common lately. Georgia reported another decent day to help keep the numbers low. Unfortunately our hospitalizations are rangebound now.
Good news is we cycle out last Monday's artificially high positivity percentage today. 7 day positivity should be well below 5% again.
