We're already seeing signs of border arrests spiking at the border thanks to Trump's irresponsible amnesty talk and wanting to fix DACA.
Border arrests were at an all time low until Trump opened his mouth about amnesty and DACA a few months back. No telling what kind of damage that bullshite 1.8 million number is doing.
If there has to be a deal, the Goodlatte bill is a very good starting point as it actually has substance and delivers real reform that takes immediate effect instead of stupid sunset provisions that will take effect long after Trump has left office and can be canceled by a GOPe or democrat president.

Have we better secured the borders and ramped up deportations in the mean time?
I feel like every time I see stats on these issues it contradicts the stats I saw the time before.

I really don't give a frick as to his motivations or tactical thoughts when that deal is Reagan's amnesty on steroids as it would turn Texas, Arizona and Georgia blue.

Trump's immigration proposal doesn't even do this.
It allows for sunset provisions where it would take us well into the 2020s long after Trump left office to finally and permanently end chain migration and the diversity lottery and that can be canceled any time by a GOPe or Democrat President.
The proposal would have a better chance if it called for immediate termination of those two programs and no sunset provisions.
It's a terrible deal and Reagan's amnesty on steroids.
