When you only test people with severe symptoms/hospitalized you are not getting an accurate mortality rate.
Not to mention the deaths coded as COVID-19 that were never tested or tested negative.

The mortality of the flu is about 0.01% in a normal year. This will level off around 0.4-0.5% once we have good serology testing.
Still 20-25x higher than influenza, but nowhere near what the numbers reflect now.

You must be using that new math the school systems tried to push on us back around the early 60s. It failed miserably and was never heard of again.
Posted on 4/16/20 at 4:26 pm to MastrShake
OP is still running on the kindergarteners understanding of statistics that made people panic about the soon-to-be 20million dead Americans

I'm not gonna get involved in the meat of the argument in the thread.
But, are you implying the math you showed contradicts 5% mortality rate?

I think those numbers come out to like HALF a percent....
Think again. This time takes the extra 2 seconds.

You MUT BELIEVE SCIENCE!!!
And disregard basic math.
frick sakes this dude is stupid.

Again, not really here for the meat of the argument, but what basic math is being disregarded?

You are ignorant of facts, which probably explains why you have the views that you do.
The COVID19 number is the Case Fatality Rate and only includes documented confirmed cases.
The flu rate you reference includes estimated cases.
I'm not sure how anyone could still not understand this on April 16th. You really have to be a dumbass to need to have someone explain this so late in the ballgame.

not exactly magas finest moment to see how many of you cant even do 3rd grade math
Posted on 4/16/20 at 4:43 pm to MastrShake
I think once widespread serology testing is available we’ll find at least 20% or so infected were asymptomatic or pauci-symptomatic which will really drive the mortality down. Of course, the mortality rate for symptomatic patients may be end up being closer to 1%.
