“The establishment in Washington is shaking in its boots at what’s going on here. They are in a terminal panic — they hear the shouts of the peasants over the hill beyond the castle walls. All the peasants are coming with pitchforks. We’re going over the top!” Pat Buchanan, 1996.

CFR Fears 'American Democracy' May Be 'Doomed' By Populism....

The Council on Foreign Relations is afraid that "American democracy" (aka rule by unelected oligarchs) may be "doomed" by the populist forces that Trump's presidency has unleashed.

The top article on the CFR's website over the weekend was a piece from Yascha Mounk titled, "After Trump, Is American Democracy Doomed by Populism?"

....In advance of Biden's inauguration, DC is being transformed into a fortified police state with checkpoints throughout the city and National Guard everywhere -- but our ruling class don't even trust the troops to be armed.

The AP reported on Monday that the FBI has been called in to take the unprecedented measure of screening all 25,000 troops coming into the city to make sure their ideology matches with our ruling class.

If our rulers need to buy our support with stimulus checks, pass PATRIOT Act 2.0 to suppress dissent as "domestic terrorism," put up giant walls and erect checkpoints throughout the Capitol to block a prospective "American Spring" and don't even trust their own troops enough to be armed, what does that say about the strength of those occupying "the People's House"?

I don't understand what the Council on Foreign Relations input is to American Democracy.

Oh. I get it. They want war. Those ignorant hillbilly populists don't.

And the American people will be cheering for it. The only question is where the "attack" is going to occur.

That's what happens when one side in the Government lies and cheats...and then assumes they can impose radical policy on the 'losers'. Hell, I'd be scared too. Of God and Man.

Our "Democracy" was founded by Populists fleeing the Elitist grasp of England.

They feared the elite so much that they created a Republic with more checks and balances than any previous form of Government ever devised.

Corrupt people are drawn to positions of power like moths to a flame. This is unavoidable.

The way I understand it, American Populism's aim is not the downfall of Democracy. It's the renewal of the Republic headed by the Constitution.

Sure it can.

All you need to do is give people a fair opportunity in the economic arena and allow rhem to live their lives as they please.

America is sort of like that. We tell them what to do and what to think and where to go and if they disagree, we call them racist and hound them from the public arena.

Think of them as an adjunct mouthpeice to the status quo inside of the US government. They are the detritus from previous administrations.

They have no problem convincing us to have our children to be killed or maimed in foreign conflicts

That’s where the people rule.
Another word for that is “democracy.”

It’s a crazy idea.

Remember when the Democrats stood for this:

quote:

a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.
"the question is whether he will tone down his fiery populism now that he has joined the political establishment"
