She did not sue the boys. They are not a party to her civil action
Interesting I was under the impression they were served. I read a story about a boy who was incorrectly served for this case due to mistaken identity son assumed they had all been named.

All over she’s from Alabama.

I am wrong, I believe it was amended to specifically include them

quote:Objectification is disregarding a person's inherent dignity and treating them a means to an end. In Sweeney's case, the end is male sexual arousal and/or orgasm. She's the tool used to achieve sexual gratification. She's regarded as a collection of body parts and orifices, not a whole person with a personality, agency and thoughts.
"Objectification" is not really applicable in the array of instances which you seem to use it.
For example, Sweeney would be accurately characterized as sultry or attractive. But an object is not "sultry." Neither is attraction the reciprocal of objectification. Instead, attraction, even in the most rudimentary physical sense, relates to an interplay of behavior, personality, and appearance.
You can see it in this very thread with multiple posters wanting to know what the claimant looks like so they can assess her worth as a person.

Except she will get a massive windfall in a settlement against the school and lesser extent the boys. She is also suing the bar she went to prior to the orgy for serving her underage.
Then will come book deals and media interviews at $1,000,000 per.
quote:I don't doubt that someone will be able to uncover a social media post from Caitlyn in Nebraska supporting this girl in a month or so, but claiming most or even s significant number of women will rally behind her after the next sensational story breaks doesn't seem likely.
She will then become a sort of Joan of Arc metaphor to the left and women everywhere.
quote:I disagree that the boys will suffer worse reputational damage than the claimant. They all acted like trash.
The boys will have their lives, name and future work prospect ruined forever.

With at least two or three of the NAMED defendants, vociferously claiming they did not lay a hand on the girl, your discounting of damage to them is awfully cavalier.

She made the decision to file civil suit outing herself, obviously she did the math and found that trading her reputation for jackpot justice was worth it.

They will get convicted of rape in a bullshite political show trial and spend 10year in jail while she will have a tens of millions of dollars in the bank. Yeah totally they same.

The next several months are going to be hell for all of them and their families.

NC, I know you can differentiate between business transactions, exchanges of goods and services and intimate or interpersonal interactions. When a consumer shows up to a business to pay for a service performed by a service-provider, that is not the same as defining someone's personhood by how that person can satisfy an urge.
quote:I don't consciously contemplate the human dignity of every actor or entertainer I see. But I also don't reduce people's value to whether or not I want to have sex with them or find them attractive. It's also possible to be attracted to someone without viewing them as simply a collection of desirable body parts.
Likewise, I don't know that I focus on the inherent dignity of any actor/model/entertainer (male or female) with whom I have zero personal interaction. Do you?

quote:Assuming this is correct, you and I aren't teenagers. We understand that money cannot restore someone's reputation. Whatever her motives for filing the suit are have no bearing on the fact that everyone knows about her promiscuity and affinity for law-breaking. I'm not trying to engage in a pissing match over who will suffer worse reputational harm. I think we can all acknowledge that everyone involved looks bad. She actually looks worse than the other boys to many people.

your discounting of damage to them is awfully cavalier.
I have read multiple posts asserting that the girl will face no backlash or negative consequences from this, and I am pushing back on that.

Fair but that’s only half the story. Would you rather look bad with $10MM in the bank or look bad while serving a 10 year prison sentence at Rikers instead of working on Wall Street like you had originally planned?
Their situations are not remotely the same.

Gov has appointed a special prosecutor, Lettita James. It’s political now and they will be charged and convicted. Is wager one or two will take their own lives.

But yes, men are more sexually wired. Women are more relationship wired. In the extreme that is manifested by Charlie Sheen's "I don't pay them for sex. I pay them to leave." Women don make-up, heels, and short dresses, not to have a quick one night stand, but to interest a man into a relationship. It's the Yin and Yang social balance.
So much of your argument, whether or not you realize it, stems from the modern expectation that men and boys be feminized. Inherent male characteristics are unacceptable ... objectification, neanderthalism, mansplaining, intimidation, controlling, etc., etc., etc..
Concurrently, inherent female characteristics are deemed desirable. A little such push back from both sides is healthy. Thank goodness, for example, we've moved well away from Sean Connery suggesting sometimes a woman needs an open-handed slap when other alternatives fail.
The truth is though, if a couple of eight year old boys swap fists on the playground, the world is not going to end. That is the way boys innately settle disputes with one another. Two minutes ... it's done. Not girls! Girls go behind each others' backs, and dredge up all sorts of hurtfulness. It is a much nastier way of settling disputes which often fester as a result.
Nowadays, the system shuts the boys down. At the same time it dissuades girls from seeking a "TradWife" role in running a happy family home. Cinderella is no longer a lovely story of a girl finding her Prince Charming. In today's terms, girls are taught Cinderella's the victim of an entitled stalker trying to entwine her in marriage.
