Unpopular opinion: If cops were as bad as you say, then you'd have a hell of a lot more stories than 1 every 4 months of a 1 cop being a shithead.
Where are you getting that figure? These types of incidents are happening multiple times a week. Recently a cop tazed a deaf man who didn't immediately comply with verbal instructions. Out west a cop beat the hell out of a man in diabetic shock because he thought he was drunk. You're nuts if you think this stuff only happens a few times a year.

t's not one or the other, we need lots of well trained and accountable police officers in our cities in particular. We should support a well funded and well trained LEO community.
Fewer laws and smarter cops

I'd tend to agree but when folks say we should support and invest, be that financially or otherwise, in LEO, often they get shouted down as a bootlicker.

It's become a Police State, so yes.
Look, i'm sure anarchy sounds great, but for one to have a civilized society, one must have police.

We need fewer LEO with much higher qualifications,
Stats prove otherwise. We need more LEO, and we need more training. We need to fund the police a hell of a lot more than what they are being funded. We don't need to cut police when it takes at least 6 fricking hours for cops to show up for a call for a home invasion. What kind of monkey math are you using?

We also need to develop a system of LEO funding that isn't largely based in fining drivers for petty traffic offenses
More emotional arguments with no evidence.

We need to develop a system of policing that is more efficient with fewer intrusions into the lives of citizens.
Well, hire more police, and train them better. As Jocko Willink put it, Navy SEALs train for 18 months for a 6 month deployment. Police, by comparison, get 6 months of training for a lifetime of law enforcement with a required average of 600 hours of training/year. There are roughly 2000 hours in a work year, LEO spend maybe 20%, and depending on the city, even less, training. Do you think that is enough time for LEO to be able to accurately diagnose, and respond to a high pressure situation involving life/death? And why don't they get trained more? Money. They aren't given enough funds to keep them fully trained, especially now that the marxists have removed their funding. Watch the clip in this article with Jocko explaining it.

"So, in the SEAL teams, we would spend 18 months…preparing for a six-month deployment overseas. When you look at [the] police, they get a matter of hours of training per year. Think about that," Willink urged. "So, out of the gate, what I think is police should have about one-fifth of their time should be spent training."
The next is an examination and alteration of the type of training officers receive.
"When I ran SEAL training and the SEAL training that I ran was not the carrying logs around and carrying boats on your head -- but I ran the tactical training for the SEAL teams. And, what we would do is we would put these guys in highly stressful situations over and over and over again," Willink recalled.
"And, the reason for that was we wanted to teach them how to control their emotions, how to take a step back, how to get control over their adrenaline, and like you said how to detach from that situation," he told Kilmeade. "Because when we get emotional, we make bad decisions -- especially when things that get chaotic."

For those of you who hate cops please relocate to Austin, Tx., Seattle, WA., or Portland, Or. and get back to us in one year with update on your happy safe lives.
If you're still around.

Cops should be trained at the level of a pilot, soldier, etc. They literally could have peoples lives in their hands on any given day and should be trained as such. Of course this would take funding at a much higher level. Maybe some of that Ukraine money could be thrown at that problem.

So not only are you for keeping the status quo when it comes to police (you didn't mention one word about accountability), you want to hire and pay the tyrants even more money. Why do you hate the 2nd amendment? Why don't you want people to learn to defend themselves? Why do you support unfettered qualified immunity and forcing citizens to pay for cop screw ups?

More and more Illinois sheriffs are joining the bandwagon, saying they will not enforce the assault weapons ban signed into law this week. So far in the greater Chicago area, the list includes the DeKalb, DuPage, McHenry, LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee, and Kane County sheriffs.

Well you have to make this argument in conjunction with a policy of fewer laws against citizens and more regulation of conduct by law enforcement. You can't just pick one or the other you have to kind of make it a general policy of all the factors

Huh? All he talked about was hiring more cops and giving them more money. Not a word on them being held accountable for their actions. He doesn't even want them to have a mandatory course on the Constitution that they supposedly take an oath to uphold.

Where are the cops that support the 2nd amendment? I haven't seen any in a long time. Most will now demand to know if you have a firearm on you in a routine traffic stop. And that's none of their business.

Police are the foot soldiers of gments. Police are simply puppets on a string but the men pulling those strings are often times evil. Look no further than locking up Christians and Jews going to worship but standing down when BLM riots.

And without asking a clarifying questions such as "okay you want to fund police better, does that come with any strings with regards to requirements or are you just wanting to give them more money" you threw a few labels on him and that was that. Which is the point entirely, until people can have real nuanced conversation without putting labels on others to shut down their opinions, we won't get anywhere.

New Orleans is a failed state. They lack officers of all skill level and intelligence level because of stupid regulations at the city level and economic realities of a banana republic style failed state.

With the quality of people they hire? No in most cases
They need to filter out applicants with low IQs and psychological disorders. Former members of armed services need extra scrutiny to eliminate applicants with PTSD
