I'm curious as to who these thriving non-Christian nations are?
The Roman Empire comes to mind. Thriving economically and militarily and even civically to an extent.
But of course it was a treacherous, evil empire in many many ways and for many epochs. My only point is, success as a nation in no way requires Christianity. It is a misreading of the Bible to think otherwise.
However, on the other hand, Christianity has had a profoundly positive effect on human rights throughout the world. That is simply undeniable.
I want to participate in this discussion more, but I really can't today.

You don't have to look very hard to find them
All of those nations are doing just fine. But none would be what they are without the good ole USA. Japan the least of which, but we rebuilt that nation after WWII.

What the frick?
First of all, you were wrong and you should just concede the point and move on.
Second, it was the "good ole USA" that destroyed Japan. This is some warped reasoning, man.

Japan was a prosperous nation and important regional power BEFORE World War Two. We simply helped them back to their feet as a counterbalance to the USSR. We picked them rather than the Chinese precisely BECAUSE they were already a successful nation-state.

Why do conservative atheists have to accept anything? What does belief in small government and personal responsibility have to do with your brand of religion?
Calculus was developed in large part by an Islamic mathematician. Should Christian mathematicians change what they accept?

Conservative atheists ... Don't exist.....ask everyone that claims to be this what they did immediately prior to getting a no notice quiz in school/college OR got pulled over by a cop OR went to a job interview....they prayed.

maybe y'all's churches should start having some in-house debates and start coming up with ways to rebrand your message that doesn't turn people off to what you're saying.
Like many mainline denominations have done and continue to do? Cast overboard any and all unpleasant doctrines and practices that don't pander to the culture's eroding morals and replace them with a focus group tested message that is neither Christian or gospel. How are the denominations that have taken that approach doing?

Japan might be a lot more ridiculous than they are now if it weren't for us impeding their imperialism

Which was well on their way to being a major world power at the time if we didn't get in their way

Christian values is one kind of social contract.
a lot of people go to a non-fundementalist church when they have kids in.order to fold the kids into society
the huge problem you have is the religion has to be more than a social contract for teenagers and young adults to bother to go
you can read spectacular criticisms on td of the key premises of judeo-christianity.
nonsense about selling daughter into slavery if she backtalks you.
myths with precisely matching stories in other cultures.
anthropomorphic Father-God.
"You cant keep them down on the farm once they've seen paris."

People don't like being told they're doomed to hell. It's off putting.
Off putting, but apparently not so troublesome as to cause people to seek out and avail themselves of the means of rescue and escape.
People want to be able to choose to go over a cliff and not be warned of the danger or how to avoid it.
If Christians refuse to share that off putting message, they've got those persons' blood on their hands. Rightly so.

We need to return to traditional values (God, family, country). That model worked and it worked well for centuries. The decline in this country began with the introduction of the Birth Control Pill, quickened with the Roe v Wade decision by SCOTUS and continues today.
It remains to be seen if we can turn this mess around. I hope so. My poor grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Things are better now than they have been in a long time
At what point in our country's history do you think we were better off than now?
