Saw a guy petitioned congress for this recently...said it's supported by 80% of Americans.

If so, why isn't there a push for an amendment via convention? If 80% of americans truly support this it would pass with zero problems.

I'm not opposed but I think the support argument is straight up bullshite because the ultimate test is every 4 years. Nothing changes. People don't want term limits. They want whatever they are promised. Also, I think that the introduction of AOC and the squad shows that the notion that introducing fresh blood or diversity into congress doesn't automatically make it better.

The people could simply term limit DC if they had any discipline. Unfortunately, everyone loves their rep but every other elected official should be primaried

We have elections for Congress every two years.

If people really wanted someone out, they'd vote them out.

Term limits are pushed by people who want someone else to protect them from their own stupidity.

true in theory

In practice term limiting your guy when nobody else does means your guy will never have any pull due to seniority.

The same assholes who are staffers forever and never have to face reelection would just scurry to the new guy anyway and do all the same work while he spends 80% of his time raising money.

Ted Cruz wrote a bill Jan in 2017 for term limits.

It was actually trumps number 1 promise on his first 100 day plan. I’m disappointed he hasn’t pushed for it.

Like the president, Congress should have term limits. Each individual has too much power now.

Initially they didn’t, but now incumbency has given them a huge advantage over opponents and its extremely hard to get one out of office.

Throw in gerrymandering of house districts and that safely insured most of the house has a huge built in advantage and little opposition from the other party.

I’d like to see two terms max for Senators and five max for HOR.

Yes...you don't have to drain a swamp that has water constantly moving in and out of it.

Nay.

The problem is the electorate. We need poll tests, not term limits.

Yes.

So long as the term limited Reps are prohibited from lobbying activities for at least 6 years following their expired term.

Otherwise, you’ll worsen the problem with term limited politicians in their final terms.

Bad idea. If you think the Deep State is entrenched now, consider how much stronger they'd be with term limits on elected officials.

Term limits on bureaucrats would be super, though. 10 years max, then get a damn job!
