Innocent Misunderstandings happen. Only assholes make a big deal out of them.
I once said "yes ma'am " to a taco bell cashier. Only to have the cashier reply back "I'm a guy". I apologized for the misunderstanding..because he was just a feminine looking dude.. he said "no big deal, it happens all the time " if that feminine looking guy was a liberal, my face would have probably been plastered on the 6pm news for misgendering him.
