Thank you Founders for your genius.
But let's be honest; if the roles were flipped, many of the Trump supporters would be complaining about the EC, just like Trump himself.

So this is the equivalent of my team outgained yours, so they should have won the game? Even though the scoreboard shows the game was already out of hand.

Sure. I'm just stating that the reaction is expected for the losers, especially when they don't understand the purpose of the EC,

I posted that I didn't see any scenario in which Trump won the popular vote and lost the electoral college. And I was clearly right.

Trump was the kind of candidate that if he won the popular vote he likely would have won 350 EVs.

Is my recollection accurate? I seem to remember Hillary supporters reminding us that the Electoral College favors her and the Democrats.

I think I remember some anti-Hillary (i.e. sane) people declaring the same.

So, I guess now the consensus is that the EC favors the GOP?

Actually this was less likely, as 538 pointed out months ago.

Hillary was making gains with groups that were disproportionately represented in partisan states (e.g., Latinos in Texas) so those gains are/were less valuable in the EC.

Really doesn't matter if she "won" this non-existent contest by 100 votes or 10 million votes.

Won't change the result, won't change the media narrative.

They won't be counting absentee ballots
That annoys me
I know it won't make a difference because trump already won but I think the absentee votes are mostly for trump

But still neither won a majority of the popular vote. Both under 50%.

Suppose there was a year where the dems and repubs both had angry primary losers, and they both ran as Indies. The popular vote could be split 4 ways (and you can bet if it was based on popular vote, that would happen). The winner could get about 25% of the total vote and still be prez

Yeah you so smart. That's not why the electoral college exists. There is this thing called reading. You should try it.

hint: the reason it exists really applies this year, but not for the reason you think

Yeah, those lies we were fed about iraq were great. Killed and injured more americans than a couple 9-11s, while economically crippling us. Patriot act is pretty fricking sweet too. Saved us so hard we got 8 years of obama.

It may not be perfect, but it gives states with lower to moderate populations a say in electing our president. I don't want large population centers like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Miami, and San Fransisco deciding presidential elections for the entire country.

Because it protects the majority of legal American citizens from the possibility that a couple of heavily populated States can determine the election by loading up on people whose ideaologies run contrary to to true American values. Like welcoming millions of illegal immigrants in and allowing them to cast an illegal vote in our Presidential elections and to count them as legit. It was intended to save us from places like California. And it did.
