Derek Mixon is his drummer. He’s also a longtime friend. They didn’t use his band for this. Wanted something edgier.

Stapleton is a retread of Travis Tritt, with liberal notions, that are I would suppose to be very opposite of Tritt.

Is noted. As it was noted when performed to project anti racism. The drummer in that highly publicized and produced opening was not keeping time. Intentionally.
It was a demonstration of DEI that detracted from the performance of the song.
