Does it look like a good shoot to you? My first impression is that he didn't need to shoot the kid.

Easy for me to say sitting here in my Lazy Boy

ETA: I know the video was released earlier, but this is the first still shot I have seem of the gun, and the first mention that the kid had gang names

You almost wish he hadn’t been dropping the gun, because while it’s still justified (nobody is able to discern intent in that split second) the officer is probably going to struggle with this for the rest of his life knowing after the fact he was dropping the gun.

That’s rough, and shame on the kid for putting him in that position.

He had to make a split second decision based on whether or not he thought the kid was trying to shoot him. If he assumes he wasn’t and he’s wrong, he’s dead. The shot rings out before you can even see the empty hand and his arm is shooting up.

You're 100% right. It's gut wrenching

Video was hard to make out when I watched earlier, but if the suspect is known to have a gun in his hand (officer responded to shots fired call I believe) and is starting to raise his arms, if you wait to see if he’s raising his arms to fire or surrender you could be dead. The suspect’s parent(s) and culcha betrayed him, not the police.

Armed, unarmed, long criminal or drug past. None of that matters anymore to the mob. Heck, you can’t even say a person is afforded due process anymore without the fear of reprisals.

Note that I don’t care if you post things which have already been posted, I consider you exempt from such rules.

Is it a safe assumption that he dropped his only gun?

Need to know the ethnicity of the kid to determine the level of the outrage on a scale from
1- white to 10- black

You are chasing a guy with a gun, he has every opportunity to drop it and does not....for some strange reason, like perhaps he intends to use it...you corner him and then he raises his hand.

Some of you have got to be kidding me if you think the cop did anything wrong.

Let em riot and tear up their own shat, the fed govt has plenty of infrastructure money to rebuild it...at your expense.

He had ditched it prior to that, but people treating what the DA said as some sort of gotcha are fricking idiots.

I'm as pro-police reform as they come but this is as justified a shoot as I've ever seen. Officer had one second AT MOST to determine whether he was going to die that night.

I ask a lot of police, want them held to a high standard, but I'm absolutely not judging one that had to make a split second decision as revealed by the body cam footage.
