The problem is that places like LA are a time bomb. There will be a big earthquake one day that will cause major devastation, we just don't know if that is tomorrow or in 100 years.
Actually South Carolina and Missouri also have good chances of having big ones in our lifetimes and unlike California they will not be prepared for them.

It'll be interesting when people from Louisiana complain when California gets federal assistance, considering how many 10's of billions of dollars were pumped into Louisiana in response to Katrina, Rita, and Gustav.
I sure hope it doesn't come down to that though. I've got family that works in industrial areas near the SA fault in Southern Cali. They're getting lithium out of the area.

First, neither one of those states have an urban metro area of 12 million people stacked on top of each other. Also, there is no way you can be "prepared" for a big one with that many people. I don't care what your definition of prepared is.

Most of our tech innovation comes from the Bay area.
And that can be easily relocated. Fertile farmland...not so much.

L.A.'s troubles have nothing to do with earthquakes.

I'm joking, but the Cali legislature did ask that some geologist study the connection between fracking and earthquakes.
Just did that in Texas too.

Is Drudge tracking the earthquakes on radar?
Drudge is a regurgitator. He couldn't track a crab on his own arse.

It's hard for me to empathize with the folks in LA or New Orleans. I mean, you KNOW the fricking disaster is coming and yet people still choose to live there. Unfortunately for the American tax payer, we will foot the bill for their bad decisions when it happens..... Again.
Do you live in Alabama? Seems like a lot of tornadoes went through there a few years ago. I know because I was helping with disaster relief.
I guess that we shouldn't spend any tax payer money on that?
Actually, along with national defense, roads/bridges, and basic infrastructure, helping rebuild cities and regions after natural disasters is one of the things that I DO fully support Federal Spending for.
I am fine with my tax money going to help rebuild areas after they are destroyed. It might be me one day.

And where do you think we should refine oil at?

It's hard for me to empathize with a redneck so dumb he doesn't realize what a world-class retard he is for making this statement. As if the tens of millions of people living in areas prone to natural disasters should move to the interior of the country like his sorry arse. If you are in an area prone to flooding, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, mudslides, volcanoes and such you need to move out now like this genius. Why are we not as intelligent as he and his ilk? Must be tough to be so damn smart. He doesn't have the self-awareness to realize most of these people would rather face these disasters than live next to he and his rednecks cousins.

I owned a home and a triplex apt. complex in metro N.O. when Katrina hit and I had flood insurance and homeowners. I cashed in my policies and sold my properties to an investor and was made "whole". The vast majority of my family, friends and people I associate with had insurance and were not bailed out in any way. As for the billions of dollars the government poured into helping the city rebuild. I think they wanted to preserve one of the most unique cities and cultural gems in the world. Sorry that frustrates you Bubba.

Pretty much your entire post, but especially this.
