Judging by the times i've been the clinic lately (for my kid's dental cleanings) it is full of white hairs. Everywhere. Buicks as far as the eye can see. Maybe it is just a local thing.
This is why some sort of catastrophic coverage is probably the best. Some sort of very high deductible, so it encourages folks to only use it when they really do need help. Accidents do happen, even to the most perfect person.
I work out daily, eat healthy (mostly), supplements... its not for everyone but it keeps me mentally strong and i look good too... Remember for 100,000+ years, humans had no healthcare, no docs, no dentists, no antibiotics..it was live or die.

quote:Just using that as ez example of how "profits" can be manipulated. The argument over insurance affordability relating to profit is total and complete BS as every insurance company employs accountants to manipulate the numbers to be able to make said argument while getting richer and richer off the backs of both the healthy and unhealthy.

CEO hires mentally handicapped stepson of his 4th ex wife at 2.5M/yr, down goes profit.
Man y'all act as if this type of stuff is soooooo common. At a large corporation, competence gets you paid, not nepotism.
For some reason it's taboo to pick on the helpless except when it comes to insurance company employees making a buck off the defenseless.
Trump makes some wild gestures in reference to a reporter during the campaign and he's slaughtered in the media for picking on the handicapped. Yet it's OK to charge thousands and thousands of dollars to these infirm under the guise of insurance company profits are low. Hypocrisy in action.

Ya my man, when you fundamentally change how a business can operate, I have zero sympathy for the people it affects because those same people voted for it more than likely. Let the insurance companies underwrite their own policies and this wouldn't happen to 90% of people. There is without a doubt, market solutions to fixing 99% of the problems in healthcare but we have implemented policies that can never be undone.

Crazy, free over here for anything. I pay 80p/m for the added piece of mind that I can use private hospitals for scans and consultancy on demand.
Free? Nothing is free. You're either paying yourself or through your taxes. So, your saying after paying for healthcare through your taxes, you have the great honor to pay again to be permitted to have a choice in your care. frick that.
Prices only got crazy here once as the government became more involved in the industry.
The last thing we should all want is a group of people that can't manage a basic budget competently to be in control of an industry that is responsible for your health.

I'm just really grateful that I'm still paying a hospital bill from 2016 when I could jump a barbed wire fence and impale myself in El Paso and get it paid for free!

I don't understand how an insurance company can charge those rates you're showing when I can get the kind of rate I'm getting.
You said it yourself. You work at a LARGE company. Meaning more power lies with you (or whoever negotiates your rates).
Now imagine, if we were able to negotiate as a COUNTRY. Imagine the negotiating power.

I truly loathe ObamaCare.
It has to be some of the most FUBAR'd legislation ever passed in this country.

Have you considered one of the religious shared coverage companies. They(you) are exempted from ACA. MediShare is one, I use one called Liberty Healthshare. LINK /
I pay $249/mo for their Cadillac plan. I had been paying $199 for the last 2 years & it increased $50 last month.
I think their family package is around $500 or a bit more.
You can research it & for reviews.
This ^^^^ is the system the current system fears. Go check out Dr. Elaina George's opinion on the current healthcare system and her solutions. The insurance companies don't want any of Dr. Elaina fixes.
She also has some youtube presentations on how inefficient the current healthcare system is and talks about alternatives to make healthcare quite affordable for nearly all Americans.
I've always believed direct patient to doctor care in most instances would drastically reduce healthcare costs. Maybe carry insurance for catastrophic illness/accidents and everything else is HSA's for primary care and minor procedures.

If everyone paid the mandate of obamacare it would have settled the premium prices. The whole concept relied upon a gigantic pool of premiums. The milennials and others did not participate. Some rednecks did not want to participate because the president was black. So, today you see the premium spikes because the theory did not evolve. It would of worked if the premise was realized and we would all be happy.

quote:Nope. Someone has to fill the “pool” up. That’s what people are paying and they aren’t happy about it. Hell, even you note that many skipped out on it. Why would they skip out on it if it’s a good deal? Oh yeah racism. Yeah yeah that’s it.

Since you are so enlightened on corporate accounting... please inform us that have accounting degrees how they would hide that from the independent external auditors? Who certify the financial statements? Because I could become a billionaire myself if I could do it. (Edit..legally do it)

It's fitting how this sentence:
...begins with "Government" and ends with "bankrupt".
I agree that merging all the federal health care insurance programs (Medicare, Medicaid, VA, etc...) into one is a good idea, but I think we need to stop bleeding cash before we commit to expanding coverage.

Last year, I had a kid with cancer. shite's expensive.
To the person who mentioned that insurance company profits are capped, I have to say that capping profits raised prices. I believe that 80% of premiums have to go towards medical expenses. That leaves 20% of income for administrative costs and profit. Soooo, why negotiate a $100 price for a procedure (and make $20), when you can make twice as much if you set the rate at $200?
