That is a solid collar. Can you just buy 50 cal ammo anywhere or does it require a special license?
Most fifty cal is legal to buy for civilians. There are a few that are restricted to mil personnel or special licensees.
The biggest problem is the high cost. Most gun dealers don't keep very much of it in stock because it's such an expensive niche round, that doesn't move very quick, unless they know they have a buyer.
Mostly it's special ordered, or purchased from outlets online.

AL Kuda is saying that them and other organizations are planning to inflict 50-60k casualties in the US this coming year. And this will be how they get it done. Luckily Trump is about to shut that border down.

AK ammo is cheap, relatively speaking, but that .50 cal ammo is big money!

Probably a reporter. Cops usually like to brag when they make a massive bust. And they report it to the local news outlets.

Smuggling is illegal. Especially if said ammo came through customs without being reported to customs.

So this was smuggled ammo? If so, then I understand why it was illegal. Anything valued over $10K and not declared when you cross the border is illegal...at least that is my current understanding.

You can legally own a .50 cal rifle and ammo like any other rifle

The ammo is like 7 bucks a round though

That much ammo, especially those calibers of rounds, would weigh a lot.

I get the impression the ammo was headed to Mexico.

Tbh Gumbo, I'd need more details about the bust as to whether it was smuggled or not. I was just answering your question as to whether the ammo was legal or not.

I think you're correct as for a monetary value. But it also depends on the item. My brother inherited property in Mexico when his mother in law passed away. So he and his wife travel to Mexico yearly. He's mentioned a limit on alcohol and cigarettes that you can legally bring back.

I hate to go all acshually on you but they did not discover it "at the border" they discovered it at a Motel 6 in Benson AZ which is just outside of Tucson on the I-10.

More likely it was purchased in Phoenix / Tucson and headed south of the border than the other way around.

I could be wrong.

I’m not saying you’re incorrect but I’ve not come across any. Including MK-211/raoufoss and SLAP rounds. They’re on gunbroker from time to time. Pricey, yes. $75-100 a round.

You can buy it. That said, most .50 costs per round about as much as a quarter pounder meal does. Every pull of the trigger you think “that’s lunch.”

Per the intel analysts recently interviewed on Shawn Ryan's show, Mideast terrorist groups have bragged that they plan on killing 50K to 60K Americans sometime soon. And there are over 1000 confirmed terrorists that came in through the open border and have been/are organizing sleeper cells.
