Cash and rules changes are good, but unless the leftist administrators are fired and black listed for this un-American transgression, it is not enough.

Charlotte School Learns Expensive Lesson After Smearing Student Over Charlie Kirk Tribute
quote:
It is coming up on a year since the murder of TPUSA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk, and the rallying cry to "Be Like Charlie" continues to resonate in the generations who he so greatly inspired. Two days after his murder in September of 2025, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg student named Gabby Stout painted a patriotic message on the school's spirit rock to honor Charlie. Despite receiving permission from the school to do this, school officials painted over the rock, claiming it had been vandalized and making an entire show of it
quote:
A North Carolina high school student has reached a $95,000 settlement with her school district after she was publicly accused of vandalism and told she was under police investigation. The controversy revolved around painting a campus "spirit rock" with a Bible verse and patriotic message in tribute to the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Fox News Digital has learned that a settlement was reached this week between the family of Ardrey Kell High School student Gabby Stout and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. Under the terms of the agreement, the school board will adopt a new free speech policy, issue a public statement expressing regret, and pay $95,000 to Stout's legal team at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

The entire apparatus, from the colleges that train future AWFULS, to your state boards of education, to your county school boards will make sure this doesn't happen.

Agree free speech should be protected and retaliation prohibited.
A separate conversation is this:
What saddened me about the Charlie Kirk murder is that was over something so passing and trivial as identity politics.
When I was in school, children admired astronauts, explorers, civic leaders, and not pundits.
Both sides’ allegiance to politics (of the time) is a stark difference in now versus 50 years ago.

Ah yes, the 60s were such a time of introspection and coming together.

I don't think it is a good idea to promote lying. We should be promoting honesty and integrity. What kind of message does this send to our children?

Says one of the biggest fricking leftist hacks on this board.
If you’re not some elaborate troll, you have zero self-awareness.

The schools hadn't been taken over by the 60's, but popular culture and the leftist anti-Vietnam War movement had just begun to infest the colleges that would produced future teachers, administrators, lawyers, and a raft of leftist mediots.

quote:Are you saying that admiration for Charlie Kirk was misplaced because he was a ‘pundit’? Also, many of those people that children admired when you were in school have been vilified by those who are pundits that practice identity politics and character assassination.

That’s a load of BS!
I was there. If said astronaut, explorer, or civic leader had come out supporting any of the ABCXYZ+= demonic crap, their public ridicule would have been enormous!

It's you left wingers who ushered this in. Congrats?

And you would be totally off base. Charlie was a civic leader with an opposing message to the liberal bias being spouted primarily at schools.
Education is about how to think not the liberal BS of what to think. The lefts messages do not survive logical exploration and are mostly emotionally derived not cognitively.
