Was in Charlotte last weekend, noticed that the city was a lot cleaner (it's already clean but even cleaner) than usual, and fewer bums in the Uptown area.

I can't tell you the last time I saw white or black guys on a jobsite doing concrete, masonry, framing, sheetrock, painting, trim, roofing, siding, etc. Pretty much the only trades that are unaffected in my area are HVAC, P&E, and Custom Cabinetry.
I'm just thankful that my specific niche has barriers that prevents the illegals from taking over.
Worked in residential construction for 3-4 years in the 70's. Never saw any immigrant workers on a single job site or crew.
Every crew building a home n the 70's was working for a small business owner who was also a lead/master carpenter. We framed the home, installed the roofing, gutters, sheetrock, finished the sheetrock, installed the cabinetry, trimmed out the interior and in some instances even painted the interior and exterior.
I don't remember seeing a real presence of illegal immigrants in the KC area until the late 80's to early 90's and they were doing landscaping and yard work. It was around the late 90's when I noticed a lot of residential construction began using immigrant subs for drywall, framing and roofing, I'm sure a lot of them were illegal too.
I remember when we mover into our newly constructed home in 1999, there were several phases of construction throughout the subdivision with quite a few unsold lots and in the evening several large vans would pull down to an area where no homes were under construction. The immigrant workers would get out their Coleman camp stoves, start cooking/heating up dinner, drinking beer and listening to their Tejano accordion music.....they slept in those vans.

That's the way my grandfather did it. He (or his guys) pretty much did it all except the HVAC and cabinets. From digging the footers with a shovel, to the finishing touches, they did it all. I worked with him in the Summers from the time I was 13 to when I went off to college. This is the way the truly high-end builders in my area still do it on the cost-plus houses. You won't find a single hispanic on any of these jobsites. Unfortunately, these houses are few and far between these days.
I built my house in 2004. Not a single illegal on the site. I had to have a new roof put on in the Spring of this year. I hired the most "local" roofing company with a nice shop location I could find. Good ole boy owner. The roofers showed up and not a single one of them could speak English. I was pissed. I asked and was told they were illegals from Atlanta. They come down here and stay for several weeks at a time. They do as many roofs as possible during that time and then go back to Atlanta.
I went out yesterday on a measure and quote for some custom cabinetry. While I was in the neighborhood, I saw a roofing company sign that said "Call Kilo". I kid you not.
