In 2015, rancher Gerardo Serrano drove from his home in rural Kentucky to visit his cousin in Mexico. As he crossed the border in Eagle Pass, Texas, Serrano snapped a picture, drawing the attention of agents who pulled him out of his truck and started searching his vehicle.
"The next thing I know, one of the agents say, 'We got 'em!'" Serrano said. Then an agent showed him a magazine with five bullets in it, he said.
"I have a conceal-and-carry license," Serrano said.
"Was there a gun with them?" Crawford asked.
"No," Serrano said.
Serrano, a U.S. citizen, was detained for hours before agents informed him they would be seizing his new Ford pickup, accusing him of transporting "munitions of war" across a U.S. border.
Lots of thoughts...
1)I love how taking a photo is now reasonable suspicion of a crime.
2)I have to wonder if they got a warrant, or if he consented to a search. If there was a warrant, what was the probable cause? Photography?
3)I would love to read the sworn affadavit by the officers arguing that having a magazine and five rounds is tantamount to having "munitions of war".
4)You have to appreciate that the pickup truck was taken, but no charges filed.

The conservative side of authoritarianism. They're on the same side as the SJW's in my opinion. State worshipping miscreants with no respect for individual liberty. And Jeff Sessions can go to hell.

Is an issue that defies logic.
Easily opposed by 75% of Democrat and Republican voters...........still exists.

This guy should sue the US Govt and the border agents individually. If all they found in the truck was a magazine with 5 bullets in it, then they should have just seized the bullets and let the guy on his way. For rank and file agents to do this suggests to me that the agents were receiving some sort of consideration for their seizures

While this is a terrible scenario... He can be happy he wasn't caught by the Mexican Authorities with bullets.... He may never have seen US soil again.

True conservatives are against civil asset forfeiture and are much more vocal about it than the left.

It's almost like the people at the top don't give a shite about us.

It is astonishing that anyone in this country would not agree on this issue.

Meh, there is the whole "comply or die" crowd mentality out there too. If law enforcrment does something, they must be right in doing so...

Someone needs to make an issue of it!

There's absolutely nothing conservative about this.

Because it is in the financial interest of the government to allow this to continue.

Honestly, I think 90% of this country disagrees with it, and I find it quite frankly illegal and unconstitutional in principle. Instead we've got a shithead Attorney General who wants to expand it.

I think a judge would have to rule they acted in bad faith in order for individual suits to go forward. And that sucks because it is very clearly bad faith.

This is unprecedented, ladies and gentlemen, but imjustafatkid for the first time in his posting history is on the right side of the issue.
