My elders didn't speak much about Popes, but I remember hearing good things about Pope John??? Who was Pope circa 1960.
John XXIII. He is now a saint. I've done a little reading on him and he was indeed a great man.

Yep. Pope Pope John XXIII (1958-63) was sandwiched in between Pius XII and Paul VI. He shocked the world in 1959 when he decided to call the Vatican II council, but he died during its early stages. (Some say that he was going to try to get the Church to accept contraception.)
I mentioned that bit that the conspiracy theorist Malachi Martin had about the supposed "smoke of Satan" entering the Vatican in 1963, but there are also proponents of Sedevacantism who believe that the 1958 election of John XXIII was rigged, and therefore that every pope since 1958 has been invalid. They are a tiny minority, and yet there is so much doubt and worry in the Church about the implications of Vatican II that similar theories are always lurking in the background.
Interestingly, groups like SSPX get a lot of press for being schismatics, but they are actually operating in communion with the rest of the Catholic Church. I actually visited their international headquarters in Menzingen, and shook hands with Bishop Bernard Fellay, last year. They seem like really good guys, and they do provide an inspiring example of how to weather the storm, but ultimately, I don't think they really have the answers to what's occurring.

prayers of the saints
OF his saints, not to his saints. Saints being his church on earth. No one is in Heaven at this time except for God, the angles, and maybe Elisha (sp?). Everyone else is asleep in the grave until Christ's return to carry his children home. Heaven is incomplete, Jesus went to prepare a place for us and will return when it's finished.

Catholicism predates the New Testament. What you know about Christianity was given to you by the Church.

It's not surprising but still amazes me that Catholics speak so much of Popes and saints, but very little of Jesus.

LOL what?

That's some first rate Protestant propaganda. You don't know what you're talking about.

What I know about Christianity was given by God himself. Not some blasphemy of a religion. Catholicism is the closest thing to true satanism alive today. It's evil and wicked and will give rise to the anti christ.

JPII was a great man. South America cucked Francis' mind. No more Popes from south of the equator.

Agreed, saints are just dead people same as any other. John 3:13 specifically says this.
quote:
No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven--the Son of Man.

You know that how? Misinterpretation of Revelation, I suppose? Written a hundred years after the Church was established by Christ himself, as clearly stated in the Bible that you purport to believe in.

That was just pure opinion on my part. I should have clarified. And that does not mean I believe Catholics are evil or satanic. I just see the evil the church had brought about the world in the name of God.

There ya have it. The fundamental flaw with the Catholic Church. Disregard the word of God in favor of the pope.

personally I feel the last 3 or 4 popes have become liberal activists looking to adopt the progressive liberal PC viewpoints in direct opposition to the teachings of the religion they are supposed to be a representative leader of.
more and more they make statements against the very teachings in the bible

Holy taken way out of context. John is telling the story of Jesus' interaction with Nicodemus in the Temple. When Nicodemus challenges Jesus about the Holy Spirit.

Thanks Rolltide1987 & Doc Fenton for the confirmation of what I generally remember hearing on Pope John XXIII.
Doc, you should have a role with the CC in some capacity, even as a writer or something. Your knowledge of the CC is extremely impressive.
