It would really suck if only the smartest among us that could get scholarship money were physicians.

Or that colleges be forced to lower tuition due to a drop in demand and actually have to compete with other schools based on the merits of their program.

Do you see the correlation between the cost of everything that you can borrow money for blowing up over the last 20 years?

I disagree with any government price controls.

But college tuition is a racket. Ending federal student loans would fix out of control college tuition overnight. I’d rather see that happen.

And, although this will never happen, tuition based off ROI or degree

Take gov loans up to $150, pull your weight and show you have a future, take private loans, pay back.

Simple as that.

Bro, do you even know how med school works? Or how many scholarships there are? Or how much it covers? Because if you expect only full ride students to become doctors most of us will never get to see one.

DEI is going to get people killed: Medical edition

This from UCLA. Ya know, in California
quote:

Several faculty members at the University of California, Los Angeles, blew the whistle to journalist Aaron Sibarium that UCLA’s medical school has been admitting students who do not reach the expected academic requirements because the students instead reach DEI requirements. Dean of Admissions Jennifer Lucero blew up on one admissions official for questioning the subpar qualifications of a black student because “we need people like this” in medical school.

quote:

One professor told Sibarium that he or she was berated by a student for asking if the student could identify a major artery in the operating room, which she could not. “Faculty are seeing a shocking decline in knowledge of medical students,” that professor warned.

quote:

That means that either jobs will go unfilled, which puts people’s lives in danger with longer waits, or that unqualified medical “professionals” pushed through med school by DEI ideologues put their patients’ lives in danger

there goes medschool for anyone without rich parents

My nephew made it to masters then doctorate after graduating and never had to borrow or take out a loan.

My sister had money set aside but never had to touch it. He also played in the band for a yr ot two.

Sioit can be done. My neighboors daughter was dumd as a rock and borrowed a ton of money but took something like socioligy.

I know she never worked or paid off her loan. I took her twice to get her drivers license.

So some people need to go into an apprenticeship. They'd make good money without getting deep in debt and learn to do something of value.

Sorry if this has already been answered and I missed it but is the government trying to prevent private lenders from issuing graduate student loans?

Cry me a river. The US should stop backing the loans completely. Schools would have to stop growing their billion dollar endowments and charge reasonable tuition. In my lifetime the cost of college has gone up 400% and yet the inflation rate for the last 30 years is 3% or less until the Biden years. Look it up. Most years under 3%. Some under 2% and a few negative years. Absolutely no way tuition would be close to the current level if not for the US backing the loans.

Explain to me why Stanford needs 1 administrator for every single student. College bloat is insane. And don't try and tell me they really need 15000 administrators for 16000 students. That number doesn't include teachers.

How about getting a scholarship if you are smart enough to make into med school. Some people do not have the intellect for that. This will be a culling system.

No but then you have to see it from the private lender pov. What would the rates and acceptance look like for someone with no support / co-signer 21 year to take out 300k plus

Sounds like med schools need to get tuition down to $150k to keep enrollment up, correct?

the cost of college is the problem, and limiting loans is a correct path to start getting these costs down

Nonsense, we force them to cap tuition at an acceptable amount. If they don't like it they can open a University it Mogadishu

The school gets all the free government money.

That is my big issue with colleges now.

Some colleges get state funding through subsidies for everything from buildings, academic labs, libraries, and some salaries. Not to mention some salaries and buildings are paid though private endowments.

Yet tuition is as high as a giraffe and no one asks can we maybe do things a little differently so that costs come down for a change and the educational goal is achieved in a cost effective manner for a degree or certificate.

Also, how about making it to where total tuition income matches the cost expenditures of the college. If we have to eliminate some programs including athletics to achieve this than so be it. Colleges need to find a way to balance their own books.

Capping cost is not very capitalistic.

Why not cap home prices? Rent control? Gas?

True. You get a bit of time during your first two summers but not enough to make jack shite. Many people trying to get competitive residencies have to use that time building their resumes. You're slave labor your last two years and during residency.

If you haven't been there, you just don't know. People forget about living expenses. There's no room and board with those tuitions. The hospitals don't give your free food. I usually packed meals from home, but it wasn't always possible. I donated blood for chick fil a coupons.

I did cut some yards for some milfs. I was a specimen back then. Tried to donate sperm, but not tall enough.
