Long story- short

Moved after 9 years. Go online and complete change of address... a day later get text to my cell about a package.. go to post office and they say not theirs... how the F did they get my cell?

After multiple attempts to call 3 post offices and the national number, I Go to 2 post offices to try and confirm change of address. Neither can help but apparently I have to go to specific post office in zip where lives or moved to. Why????

On way to 3rd post office.

USPS should be abolished. It’s a useless service.

I'm sure each one of us could write a book on the disaster called the United States Post Office. Oh, the stories we'd tell.....

When it comes to cheaper shipping, give me USPS over UPS every time.

UPS ground can take like 7-10 days at this point. In my experience Priority Mail is almost always faster, often considerably.

Just left the post office in Lafayette. Needed a passport for the kids. Took about 20 minutes. Made the appointment a few weeks ago for the first slot after lunch so no one would be in front of me and had all of my shite together.

I just had an issue a little while ago myself. Amazon said the USPS made an attempt to deliver a package but encountered a problem and will try again later.

I waited a few hours and no attempt was made so I went to the post office. The boomer working there was immediately a prick while I was telling him what my issue was. He finally just dismissed me and said he can’t contact the delivery driver and it’s not here. I told him it is here, I can see the bird bath my wife ordered on the box right behind you. He turns around and says oh. Here you go.

fricking idiot.

All that to say I agree with you.

The mail man comes in my workplace every day and hands me a pile of trash. Out of courtesy I wait until he at least walks out the door and pitch it in the trash. That is clearly a job that is either no longer needed, or needs to be greatly reduced in size.

I lost a court case because USPS never sent me any of the documents from the court. No service returns, no summons, no judgments, no dismissals, nothing. I filed a petition and got nothing back. I finally called to check service on defendant, and they said the case had already been dismissed and court date assigned and missed. Meanwhile, I still get swamped with junk mail and old stuff for deceased former residents. F$&k USPS.

I live in an old folks community and we have common areas where groups of about 30 post office boxes are located - usually on a busy street.

I stop by there couple times a week when it is convenient = I have asked them to please put a trash can beside it.

In my experience, the post office has been incredibly reliable and dependable all my life until Covid. Since Covid, I am seeing things like putting mail in the box and discovering no one picked it up. I have never in my life seen that before and now seeing it once every month or so. I suspect some things are going on with registering mail into tracking systems as well but not sure if that is actually post office problem.

I've actually gotten in my truck, right after they dropped my mail and didn't leave shite, chased them down to get my mail. Because their informed delivery showed that an important letter I needed was out for delivery

Is USPS really that bad? I genuinly hear this but have no real bad experiences. I must be lucky or have a solid branch near me. Only had one issue where a seller tried to scam me and USPS helped me out big time.

I can see maybe small business owners or people that send a ton of mail hating the service.

I had an idea to scale down the USPS - retire most of it. Confine it to small postage, like letters, and government mail.

Example: When the VA has to mail medication to veterans, USPS gets it, not UPS etc.
When you have simple letters, not time sensitive, drop it in the USPS box.

Everything else is private.

If the USPS is going to lose money, we may as well downsize it, put more of its work into the private sector, and see if we can minimize those losses.

Losing business from the government, by UPS and the others, should be more than offset by USPS getting out of the package game entirely.

I ordered some electronics a few years ago that shipped from mainland China. I followed the tracking all the way to the USPO on constitution in BR. My office was 3 streets over from the PO and they fricking lost it.
