will be interesting to see what happens when the consumer gas bills get sent out, I expect some sort of govt intervention on pricing otherwise our home use gas bills are going to sky rocket
I have been running my gas fireplace 24hrs for three days
I was talking to a friend rocking along with his Nat gas generator after his power went out. I told him about field pricing and the retail markup, and, shite, he got nervous. Could be a 3 day $4-5k bill.

oh I know
I suspect the disaster declaration gives abbott leeway to control some of the personal consumer economic fallout
this is a crazy time right now in more ways than one

You haven’t been posted accurate prices.
I have man. I don’t know what else to tell you. The Katy hub is $200/mmbtu and hsc was about $350. Are you looking at the nymex price? Nat gas trading is weird and can be very regionally affected.

Motherfrickers want to talk about a revolution? Wait to these bills hit - especially the griddy people.

We could probably trade some family surnames and find a link.

you keep repeating this but what do you mean? do you think producing natural gas wellheads freezing is part of the problem?
I'm do oilfield chemicals for a living, so I can actually speak to this.
Certain mixtures of natural gas and pressure can form hydrates at a low enough temperature (Think snow/ice, but water cages around natty gas instead of forming snowflakes). Makes for a plug that you can't really melt via hot temperatures because it will explode. Nasty shite, but honestly when we know there's a well likely to have those problems, they are already being treated (methanol, and some fun chemistries that inhibit formation or growth).
That said, we're talking about winterizing so let's go there.
Usual year, Texas gets 1 or 2 weeks each year where temps drops into the low 30s/high 20s. Sometimes there's snow, sometimes not. Regardless, it's not cold enough often enough to set up mass-winterization equipment everywhere. If a site has seen winterizing issues in the past, it has already been set up for said winterizing.
What we've gone through is a perfect storm of cold weather. We're at 200 consecutive hours below freezing (Five days was our previous record), and had 8 inches of snow in 24 hours (third largest all time). While you might say "We need to prepare for this" the reality is the answer is to just sit and wait it out.

Dont try to be fricking haha chummy now frick head. You’re falsely accusing me of being a liar about natty pricing.

I missed this earlier...I know for a fricking fact this was a big part of the problem...personally and just info in the field other co contacts. You had in the neighborhood of 4mm bod shut in plus all the associated gas. Also had dry gas wells shut in due to midsrmtream co failures - lots of force majeure letters flying around.

The roads are crap and freeways are underwater for hours or days after storms.
Have you traveled by car outside of TX much?
TX metros are concrete havens. Sooner or later, the water will find its way into them.
