You're post is too long but...
You always have choices. You don't have to buy the product with tarrifs. Buy from a different country. Buy from the US. That country's manufacturer can also lower the price. That's what most don't understand about tarrifs. It's not necessarily going to lead to inflation.

The biggest issue is these few live in a world that does not exist. Their only argument is that because it's China, they can make the products cheaper due to wages.
That is a falsehood in our time. According to recent data, the average salary in China is around 353,000 Chinese Yuan (CNY) per year, which translates to approximately $50,400 USD. The average pay in the US is $63K. A difference of $13K.
This is not the world it was. Not only that, we need jobs here and less welfare. Since 1955, the gap of prices vs pay in major needs like housing has been amplified by almost 10x what it was before globalization and the "free Trade" that FDR sold conservatives on.

Do you feel super smart for explaining an extremely simple concept? I mean, this is pretty basic stuff

quote:We’ve had tariffs on solar since 2018. Where’s all the solar manufacturing?
please explain to me how tariffs work
They bring manufacturing back to the USA, which will raise the base pay of the average American higher than any related increases in cost of goods.

And that doesn’t even begin to account for the other COGS inputs like regulatory and legal.

Those?
Solar manufacturing capacity has increased dramatically. In Q3 2024, the US had 38 GW of module assembly capacity, up from 19 GW at the end of 2023. SEIA projects that the U.S. solar manufacturing workforce alone will reach 100,000 workers by 2033.
First Solar 460W Series 6 cost $190.00
vs
Jinko EAGLE JKM425N-54HL4-B 425W at $182.

That increase isn't from solar tariffs, it is from Biden's IRA.
"The U.S. solar industry has seen a rapid expansion since President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August 2022. The act has been instrumental in increasing domestic solar panel production capacity more than fivefold. This is a crucial step in Biden’s goal of building clean energy supply chains within the country. "

I see. You don't want to talk CHINA anymore. LOL!
This is what the USA First people look at. We built China to a rival status. Now you want to go build another country to a rival status and again it's at the expense of Americans. So let's tie ourselves to another COMMUNIST nation.

This is due to tariffs, moron. You cited a law that allowed Biden to increase tariffs on solar panel production as evidence that tariffs aren't the reason solar manufacturing has increased in the USA.
It's pretty obvious why you didn't provide a link, so here I'll provide one. LINK
quote:
U.S. trade officials are expected to announce on Friday a new round of tariffs on solar panel imports from four Southeast Asian nations after American manufacturers complained that companies there are flooding the market with unfairly cheap goods.
It is the second of two preliminary decisions that President Joe Biden's Commerce Department is making this year in a trade case brought by Korea's Hanwha Qcells 000880.KS, Arizona-based First Solar Inc FSLR.O and several smaller producers seeking to protect billions of dollars in investments in U.S. solar manufacturing.
This is the latest chapter in a more than decade-long trade war with Chinese companies over their solar dominance. Chinese manufacturers have responded to U.S. solar tariffs by moving their massive operations to nations where they will not face duties - including Southeast Asia.

You didn't read the article, moron.
The date of your ariticle is from late November 2024 moron.
Those increased tariffs on solar started in December 2024 moron.
How could those tariffs be responsible for increased solar production from the years 2023 to 2024 if they were just enacted in December 2024.
The increase in production came from incentives and subsidies in Biden's IRA, bottom line.

You dumb frick. Read the article. Those tariffs started on Jan 1, 2025. So how could those tariffs increase solar panel production in the 2023 to 2024 time frame?
Here is another link saying the same
Jan 1 2025 solar panel tariff increase
Biden orders up to 50% tariffs on some solar energy components from China
The duties will target critical solar energy inputs, including wafers, polysilicon and tungsten products, beginning Jan. 1.
Published Dec. 12, 2024
Do understand the timing here???
