All you hear is there's so many and resources are strained and we need federal help. Here's an idea, don't let them in the country. Enforce the laws already on the books. It's a pretty simple fix.

The "laws on the books" force us to let them in and process for asylum if they claim it. That's the issue.

Why Remain in Mexico was such a smart and good policy.

Pretty sure the law on the books requires them to "seek asylum" in the first countrie's border they cross. For the vast majority of these illegal's, the United States isn't the first country.

Also, if we are just supposed to take them all in for asylum, what exactly is the point of the US and Mexico being two separate countries?

It's a treaty, which the US ratified on November 1, 1968, per Google. It's part 28 of the Geneva Convention.

Per Bard:

quote:

Harry Truman did not sign the 1951 Convention because he felt it infringed on U.S. sovereignty. Lyndon Johnson reversed course and signed the Protocol in 1968, and the Senate ratified it

You're wrong.

I'm pretty sure even American courts have ruled this principle isn't the law. I'm having trouble citing that because the SEO is stuck on a Biden policy being reversed by a California court.

Cash-strapped California will ring in the new year by offering free health care to all undocumented immigrants who qualify for the state’s government-run health insurance program.

The state, which faces a $68 billion deficit in the next fiscal year, has been steadily expanding access to its Medi-Cal health insurance program for low-income residents, allowing undocumented children to qualify for the taxpayer-funded program in 2015, then expanding it under Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom to cover undocumented adults between the ages of 19-25 and those over 50.

No I know you're wrong and I know why.

I said I'm having trouble linking the cite b/c of Google/SEO. I've linked it on here before.

Here is the wording of the clause:

quote:

The Contracting States shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees who, coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened in the sense of Article 1, enter or are present in their territory without authorization, provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence.

Nothing requires the refugee ("refugee" in this case) to remain in that first country. Read the bold language.

We can try to send them back to the last safe country they were in prior to entering the US, BUT that requires approval from that country (which is basically what "Remain in Mexico" was and why it was legal).

I think the only countries in the Western Hemisphere to have an existing agreement are The US and Canada

Uh, what?

OP asks a question. I answer.

I even supported/defended Trump's policy on this. How is that "deflecting from Biden", exactly?

Its no coincidence that the "Great inflation" started in 1965, and manufacturing died in the early 70s.
