Can someone give me a few things McCain accomplished?

Seriously, not trolling....
What are his major accomplishments to justify this level of coverage?
Ok, he was a navy pilot and POW... do all deserving service members get this fanfare?
From seeing all this and the level of orchestration he played in this... he comes across as an egomaniac. He detailed every single aspect of his funeral and memorials. Who would attend, how many servicemen from the branches, etc... He’s only the 30 something congressmen to lay in state at the capital, which gives insight as to why he didn’t resign and held onto his seat until his death. Again, egomaniac.
Would love someone to inform me and change my mind as to why he deserves all this, be I truly only know him from the last 10yrs or so.

He accomplished as much as Obama. And if you say that was 'nothing' then consider this. It's extremely difficult to write an autobiography when you haven't done anything. And Obama wrote two of them.
