Come out to my neighborhood just outside of Austin (Dripping Springs, TX). The deer have no natural predators... they are EVERYwhere... overpopulated... starving... emaciated...

Hunters play a very healthy role in the absence of natural predators. It's love of nature and the balance thereof...

Hunters want to conserve the habitat (environment) and the game they hunt for there hunts next year and for their grandchildren and their grandchildren's grandchildren. That what sense they love these animals (and environment). They want to conserve the game and their habitat for future generations.

Okay, I really know nothing about hunting. So how does hunting animals conserve them?

Really, like come on, really?

By far and away the biggest conservationist are hunters/fisherman. There is a whole lot more to hunting than killing an animal. I cant tell ya how many times I have gone hunting knowing the chances of killing are slim to none.

I am too busy to go into detail, bring this to the OB and get educated.

I just don't get the point of hunting when everyone lives within a few miles of a grocery store.

Meat buyers at the grocery are just paying to have someone else do their killing.

Hunters are more like do-it-yourselfers. Kind of like people who like to work on their own cars.

Do vegetarians love vegetables?

Without the hunter being conservationists there is no telling what shape some of our animal populations would be in. Liberal policies are causing populations to explode which is causing animals homes to be destroyed.

What do you mean?
Were it not for hunters working through their state wildlife agencies and such, encouraging responsible hunting regulations, contributing to improved habitat, food sources and such, we would not have the deer population that we have, the wild turkey probably would be almost absent without the work for many years of the National Wild Turkey Federation and no one can possibly calculate the good the Ducks Unlimited has done for so many years.

A good example is Ducks Unlimited. Read what they are about and their mission statement. I think that would shed some light on your question.

Don't be defensive. I really don't know. I was hoping to get educated.

And I didn't even think of the outdoor board. That would be a better place for this thread.

Hunters pay billions of dollars a year in fees to lease land. This leased land keeps the habitat in a state that allows animals to live. Without this the land would be used for other uses, homes, farms, malls, etc and then there would be no places for the animals to live...

Hunters take a small amount of the animals a year, if they take too much it depletes future stocks. It is bad long term management...

You bring a thread to Poli that clearly would be easily answered in the outdoor board. You see the entire section but don't go there for your answer. Google motherfricker google.

The entire metro area of St Louis is rife with rabbits(very big ones in fact) and deer. A few years ago one of the cities in what is called the county(strange way it is set up the city itself is not a part of the county at all) began issuing hunters permits to cull the deer population which was simply out of control. The hill country of Texas including San Antonio in it has been dealing with a deer population so off the scale or over forty years. A "hunter" needs to do nothing more to shoot one than walk out onto his porch.

I'm just trying to understand how a person can love animals and kill those animals.

It's more akin to respect of, interest and/or seeing a kindred spirit in the animal(s) than "love" like you are thinking of. As an example, some Indian tribes would thank the spirits of the animals they killed, even if they had killed many more than what they needed for survival.

Uncalled for. The man wants to understand something. How better to find out than to ask?
