Anti-tariff folks will propagandize annualized inflation during the price pass-through period.

In 2017, the cost of a new washing machine varied significantly by type, but you could expect to pay anywhere from under $500 for basic, portable models to $700-$1,300 or more for standard, full-sized models.
In 2019, a new washing machine cost anywhere from about $500 for a basic model to over $2,000 for a premium front-loader, with many mid-range models priced between $700 and $1,300.
In 2025, washing machines cost, on average, between $700 and $1,300, though prices can vary significantly based on features, capacity, energy efficiency, and type, with basic models starting around $478 and high-end $1,300
Try again...
At lowes right now.... $498.

Except that hasn't happened
Its exactly what has happened. We switched from making rubber dog shite to producing software and high tech equipment.

This whole "we need the government to guide us on what we can/can't buy for our own good" is the furthest thing from conservative free trade that I can imagine. We're net consumers because we want to buy shite, and these jokers are saying the government needs to step in and hit us with a switch.

What’s the trade deficit look like when you add in the trillions in services we export?
The balance of trade includes both goods and services. For 2024 our total deficit was about $930 billion if I recall correctly. Roughly a deficit of $1.2 trillion in goods, surplus of $300 billion in services.

Because your retarded anecdote has nothing to do with statistics

Sounds like a good opportunity for their competitors to get creative with their supply chain and pull some new business in.

If communists are subsidizing your purchases, you are winning and they are losing.
Small and medium businesses buy cheap imports, add value, sell at a profit. That profit stays here, chief.

Given Trump's desire to take ownership in private companies to extract profits, make false growth by monetary stimulus, etc I'm not sure why MAGA folks tell us China is our enemy. We seem to be emulating them.

Tariffs are anti capitalist.

The Trump Administration did a terrible job of trying to educate the public to how tariffs work.
Someone needed to better explain that in order for America to derive the full benefit, it would take investing in our own manufacturing.
That takes time.

American tariffs cause inefficiencies.

Can an economy that includes tariffs be capitalist?

Tariffs only work short term and if they are targeted
Widespread tariffs lead to trade wars and inflation.
