Most states around the country are doing some sort of EV tax to replace lost gasoline tax revenue that goes to maintain the roads. EV's are 2X heavy than ICE vehicles and put more wear and tear on the pavement.

Not an EV owner or fan but seems ridiculous. Pay sales tax, property tax. Shouldn’t that cover wear and tear on the roads? Not a fan of being taxed multiple times over for owning something.

Maybe they can do a silly QR code like Louisiana is doing to phase out inspection stickers for some added revenue and charge more for EV’s and Hybrids.
I have said this before why don’t they tax EV chargers a few cents per kWH as a road tax. You could easily add this to standalone charging stations, but it would be harder to implement for people who do at home charging.
Only way around that would be to require a separate meter panel for at home charging so Cali can get its tax money. It also increases the cost of EV ownership as now you are required to do extra electrical work to get your EV charger installed.

Yeah, they charge me a $80 “fee” every year. The BS part is my “Hybrid 4Runner” gets 23 mpg…hardly a gas sipper. Meanwhile, I could get a Honda Civic and get 40mpg and not pay the fee. That car is twice as efficient. It makes 0 sense.

Since your user is Arktiger I assume you are in Arkansas. You pay 24 cents per gallon state tax and 18.5 cents per gallon Federal tax when you drive your ICE vehicle.
EV owners are skipping that and driving vehicles that weigh twice as much
In Louisiana we pay 20 cents per gallon which is the 6th lowest in the country. States like Cali and Illinois are paying 70 cents per gallon.
So they are losing an arse load of tax to EVs
