thought Native Americans have a genetic condition that causes alcohol to affect them much more than other ethnicities?
Some natives also have a lactose intolerance to cow milk. For the same reason.
Some Asians also have a lack of tolerance to wheat based alcohols.

I could argue one point. Many natives are a-hole drunks. A lot of bars around the reservations won't let them in for that reason.
My biological father (native blood) was an a-hole drunk. My adopted son's (native) father was the same.
Though yeah. Having a Korean mother, back when I was drinking people would say they were going to strap me to the hood of their car to use as a headlight. Or I'd get teased that Santa was going to use me as a replacement for Rudolf, because of how red my face would get.

They never developed a need for brewing alcohol and didn't have it until we introduced it to them.
They apparently never developed a need for the fricking wheel either.
Not sure its about "needs". More likely its capability.

I’m Native American on my dad’s side. He died at 78 from drinking most of his life. Hard liquor affects me especially harsh. I avoid it. Milk is also an issue with me.

Alcoholism on reservations is well-documented. There are a laundry list of NOFAs out there to address the problem. I have no idea why this prof lost her mind over this well-established issue.

Indians drank long before europeans arrived. Mayan paintings even show them pouring Balche in tubes up their rectum to intensify the effects.

Horrible things done wrongly to those folks
Horrible things have been done to every race, ethnicity, culture, religion and tribe.
It's a tough world.
The natives would have been much better off if the reservation system was never implemented and they were forced to assimilate.

I call bullshite on this theory by whoever came up with it.
There's some merit.
TL;DR - Lack of protective variants in alcohol-metabolizing enzyme genes (primarily ADH and ALDH), combined with other genetic risk factors for traits like externalizing behaviors, consumption drive, and drug sensitivity/tolerance increase the chance of alcoholism among American Indians to the point where it's higher than that of most others. To be clear, while it found no risk variants unique or specific to American Indians, what it did find is that most American Indian groups largely lack well-established protective variants common in other populations.

I work with a couple Indigenous dudes (Sauk tribe). They're always the first to tell you that there's a huge alcoholism and drug problem among their people. In Oklahoma, the tribes are among the highest demographics for substance abuse, domestic violence and suicide.
I'm friends with a bunch of native Americans and kin to some Lakota and Seminole trough marriage. They all know the truth. Ignoring it doesn't change anything.
