In some areas we are already there. Look up squatters rights in some states. Or don’t pay your property taxes and someone can buy the tax lien and take possession of your home after a period of time if you don’t repay them plus interest

We don’t really own our property. The only taxes on property should be sales tax at the time of purchase or on capital gains from sale of property. You could make a case for annual property sales tax added to the mortgage note since you’re paying for the purchase over time. But once you own it outright with no mortgage and no lien, there should be no tax
