I don’t see it as a deterrent as much as a way to avoid paying to keep these animals alive for decades. That, and most of the victims’ families are able to find a modicum of comfort in it.
In cases as heinous as these, I don’t have the slightest answer as to what is/isn’t the right thing to do.

It's the law of the land so I guess I don't really oppose it but it seems insufficient, if that makes any sense.

Forgive my ignorance... why were they tried in federal court? How could those federal district courts have sentenced death? Do those respective states have the death penalty?
