The United States was the world’s seventeenth-largest steel exporter in 2018.

In year-to-date 2019 (through June), further referred to as YTD 2019, the United States exported 3.5 million metric tons of steel, a 28.5 percent decrease from 4.9 million metric tons in YTD 2018. U.S. exports represented about 2 percent of all steel exported globally in 2017. The volume of U.S. 2018 steel exports was about 1/8th the size of the world’s largest exporter, China. In value terms, steel represented just 0.8 percent of the total of all goods the U.S. exported in 2018.
The United States exports steel to more than 200 countries and territories.

There are those that believed the steel tariffs would somehow make us a bigger steel producer or something like that.

Idiots never thought it would make US steel exporters and those that export US made manufactured products containing steel uncompetitive.

Wow

You sure have turned out to be a simple Trump hater dressed in free trade clothing.

What a waste. You’re not even good for a good melt laugh anymore.

Umm, you gave stats for steel exports. Not steel production.

If imports become more expensive because of tariffs, steel purchasers in the US are more likely to buy from US steel producers. Which of course means fewer steel exports. Surely you recognize of that, right?

I don’t know enough about this market to know if steel production is up for down overall, and generally speaking I’m against tariffs where possible. But at least be intellectually honest in your arguments against them, or you’re just working against your own cause.

If you have any investments at all, I bet you're very appreciative of the work President Trump put in on your behalf.....unlike the former president.

I think this is his source

Not surprising he didn’t want to link it. Further down the report is this key fact...
quote:

U.S. crude steel production increased 6 percent between 2017 and 2018, and further increased 5 percent from 42.1 million metric tons in YTD 2018 to 44.3 million metric tons in YTD 2019
Production is up. We’re just exporting less of it because domestic demand is high on account of the tariffs.

There are potentially valid arguments to make against the tariffs. When the OP uses intentionally misleading non-stats like this it completely undermines the few legit arguments that actually do exist. He’s gotta grow up.
