Wouldn't the full faith and credit provisions of the Constitution require Oklahoma to respect his Texas deed?
There's got to be more to the story. I'm not an attorney, but I find it difficult to believe that the land owners are out of luck due to selectively-defined "moving" shorelines. If the feds rule that OK owns the land, someone owes this family a century of back taxes, with interest.
This one should run up the court system.

It seems those 1870's settlers were told, “If you like your ranch you can keep it.”
First, I 'd at this. Then it set in. Reminded me of the most prescient response to Obama's first election - something I read online the evening of November 4, 2008, posted by the teenage son of a family I know: "We are fricked."

Just wondering why the BLM would have a dog in this hunt. Seems as if the border war should be between the two states. Does the BLM on the Okie side of the river control that land and now they are just wanting more?
I don't know about you guys but all this ammo buying stuff, land enforcement shite, building big arse data storage facilities, etc. all of a sudden just doesn't add up to me.
Coincidental? Maybe so but there is an odor in the air regardless.

My SO's ex-husband has family in that area. I need to get her daughter to call up there and find out what is going on.

the only thing i can think of, and i'm no expert by any means, is that this is pursuant to some federal regulation along that river, probably part of the CWA or something

I honestly don't see how the BLM can seize land with a deed and no tax issues. This is wrong.
Also, where are the state officials in all this?
I wonder if they do attempt to seize it if the owner could make a fight under the 5th Amendment and eminent domain.

Henderson has a clear deed to his land in the state of Texas. He has no back taxes or fines or other issues pending.
"He didn't own that"

Well, if he never owned it, he deserves a lot of money back for the property taxes his family has paid for the past 100 years.

Is there a map of the land in question? 90k acres is a shite ton of land... I don't see how a river/border moved enough to account for that much of a difference.

His plat or a map of the parcels in that area should be public record through the county. Usually available online. If I get some free time later, I will try to find a map if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

Good luck finding .380 ammo
Ammo has gotten expensive and more scarce up here too. When I see it in stock, I buy 100 or so rounds because I assume prices are going up. I guess everyone else does this too.
Not that I'm trying to plan some kind of rebellion.....just trying to save a little money while I stock up. Even practice rounds are getting expensive.

So the boundary commission’s work won’t help people like Henderson, who lost 110 acres of prime pastureland in a 1984 dispute. Initially his complaint was with his neighbors across the river, who contested his ownership of the land, but then the federal government stepped in, informing the parties that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management has a 116-mile-long pasture reserve along the Red River bottom lands. The feds claimed that the acres did not belong to either Henderson or his neighbors across the river but were under federal jurisdiction, and a federal judge agreed. The worst part was that Henderson had borrowed money from the federal Farmers Home Administration to buy the acreage, so he still has to make payments on property he no longer owns. “It’s like if you bought a stolen car with money you borrowed from the bank—the bank still wants the money,” he says.
For the love of God...

One of these days, in their overreaching landgrab, the feds are going to piss off the wrong rancher, and it won't end well for anyone.

Posted on 4/16/14 at 8:47 am to MisterSenator
Are they just targetting conservatives? I mean, any liberals involved in these land disputes?

Come on HT...this is the Tiger Rant Poliboard; we know what is coming down here.
It is a virtual fait accompli that the *Government* WILL necessarily assume absolute authority in many of the instances where Individual rights (as formerly codified in the Constitution) will have to be surrendered if the new and less self-reliant populous is to survive.
Burgeoning and unemployable urban populations and the influx of unskilled Latinos alone...coupled with the aging Boomers will read economic havoc. It's unsustainable...re the current (Capitalist/Individual Merit-based) economic model.
The 'transition'...is what the bullets and body bags are for. The Government full well knows that many folk will outright reject the "fundamental change" to the Central Planned/Authoritarian model. So...as any responsible Civil Entity should...they are preparing to sustain *civility* ...to the degree that they foreseeably can.
Earth 2014.
Freedom rocks. If one can handle it.

With how divided the country is and the over arrogance of the Fed, as recently displayed in Nevada, I have a feeling we aren't far away from witnessing this.

A somewhat similar situation happened to my in laws. For Katrina there house was flooded with 27ft of water. Structurally the house was fine and after waiting 3 months for the water to go down they started rebuilding. After about 9 months and 38k of their own cash invested in rebuilding they get a letter from the army corp of engineers stating that they plan on moving the levee and will have to tear down their house. The letter also stated that they will compensate them for the appraised value(425k) of the property pre Katrina or buy them a house of equal or lesser value anywhere in Louisiana. The in laws decided to build a new house in thibodaux for 275k well below the value of their old house to which the army corp agreed to pay for. The DAY BEFORE CLOSING they get a letter stating that they( Army corp.) will not pay for the new house due to the reason my in laws received money for the old house from their insurance company. Now the money they received from insurance only paid off the mortgage which was 70k.
Ask me why I should support this government in any way shape or form.
Also, no lawyer would take the case because it is illegal to sue the federal government.
frick the USA.

Don't kid yourselves. A significant percentage of the 47% are rooting for the Federal Government.
