I didn't get to that point in the vid, but yeah, if THAT happened the thing seems pretty fricked up.

It was the neighbor who called reporting a suspicious vehicle. Which the cops then determined was the owner of the house’s car. The caller also then said she recognized him and knew he was the neighbor and that he was friends with the owner.
They still arrested him.
They still arrested him.

Basically, EVERYTHING is checking a box.

Please explain how they were stupid ? Stop talking in generalities, provide specifics.
They had his last name and his address. They could’ve easily checked to see if that last name matched up with the occupant of the address he indicated.
They knew he was a neighbor. They knew he was a friend of the person’s house he was at. The neighbor who called in a suspicious car was wrong. It was the homeowner’s car. She also recognized him when she got closer and said it was very likely that he was supposed to be there.
Why would you put someone in handcuffs given all that? Because you’re stupid.

This is strange because Childersburg is a very small town where everyone knows each other. However, a neighboring small town (Vincent, AL), just had a big to-do with cops texting racist things and it going public.

I’m not sure this is the right case study for that comment.

Thank God I thought they had a water usage ban.

The cops have to respond to the call or they get in trouble. They also have the right to ask for id.

They do not, apparently, have the ability to not be stupid.

That happened to me once when I was moving some old furniture from my parent's house (where I lived for 12 years). Broad daylight, 3 police cars pulled up, light flashing, guns drawn and pointing at me and a friend. Some neighbor (never found out which idiot neighbor) called the police.
BTW, I am white and identified as white at the time of the incident.

WHAT ? The cops actions couldn't have been any better upon their arrival. They explained the entire situation, very nicely, and politely, from the very start ! What did they receive from the very start, attitude, belligerence, and threats.
PLEASE explain to me what was so wrong with their actions.
LOL, yeah you have no idea of what you are talking about. I would tear that up in court with ease. The Pastor identified himself when they approached and told them what he was doing and to be fair it was blatantly obvious. You don't also have to identify yourself, constitutionally protected, even though he did in the beginning.
They obviously saw him as no threat and made up a charge for their actions instead of investigating first to CYA. Guaranteed that this will get dismissed and a lawsuit will happen.

I actually had a similar circumstance. I came home from school and didn’t know the alarm code was changed. The police showed up and I gave them id. They made me sit on the steps until they contacted someone to verify I was allowed to be there. Yes I was a clean cut kid with the same name as the residents with my luggage in the car. But that doesn’t mean I am allowed to be there. Maybe my parents told me to never come back.

LOL, some of you are so gullible. They can ask for ID but under the constitution you don't have to give it unless you are being charged with a crime.
Quit watching law and order and think you understand.

I’m not a lawyer. What if they have reasonable belief a crime is being committed, such as a neighbor calling and saying someone suspicious is outside a neighbor’s house?

quote:It was only obvious to me that he was watering flowers, not who he was. He said who he was, but refused to identify himself.
When it’s obvious the guy is a neighbor watering the bushes, go back to fighting crime.
So, let's say someone was with him, and inside the house looking for money and jewelry.
"Here, you stand outside and water the flowers and draw suspicion away from the house to yourself. Tell anyone that asks that 'you're the pastor down the street just helping out your neighbors.' I'll go through everything, then you let me know when it's clear to come back out."
I mean, that's entirely plausible. All the guy had to do was identify himself and the cops leave. Under those circumstances, I would, just to avoid trouble. I know I am not required to show ID to a cop. This guy decided to bring trouble on himself.
