A while back I was having a bit of a political discussion with a young, black male on the nature of BLM. He was under the delusion "it was created to stop police brutality" (if that's not the direct quote, it's not far off). I was politely and patiently correcting him when we got into statistical data.

He tried making the point that blacks die more often as a per capita to police violence, to wit I responded not when that per capita is the measurement of police interactions due to the amount of violent crimes committed in black neighborhoods. I then went on to state (and back up) that no one is "hunting" blacks other than other blacks. The fact is that blacks kill even more whites by a rate of 2x than whites kill blacks while whites outnumber blacks by 5x and that by BLM reasoning this should mean we need a White Lives Matter movement "but then that would be racist".

If this event had happened just two weeks earlier it would have been an excellent underscoring point for that statement and dovetails well into your second sentence.
