Let's be honest. If the person is an abuser then owning or not owing a gun will change nothing.

I agree. I think once a person has served his time, they should be reinstated their rights
Absolutely.

Curious on the opinions with this?
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
You cannot forfeit a God-given right to self-defense.

No. All gun laws are and infringement and should be unconstitutional.
If a person is too dangerous to have a firearm, they are too dangerous to be walking around freely. It isnt the firearm that makes someone dangerous, they could just as easily beat their SO with a bat, knife or axe.
They belong in prison. So legislatures should pass laws that if you are convicted of domestic violence you go to jail for 25 years. And in the same law they should add a provision that if a DA tries to reduce or lower the sentence they should join the criminal in jail for the same 25 years.

Even if only restricted to convicted, why isn't this a state level issue?

For those charged? Unconstitutional. For those convicted - if a felony, maybe, depending on the circumstances. We all know how this goes down. Wife goes crazy, picks up something to hit husband with, husband swats it out of her hand. She calls 911, her word against his. Men always lose in court. Dude has his guns taken away. She files for divorce, takes everything, he is destitute, has nothing, lives in the slums, gets robbed and assaulted, has no way to defend himself, and he's dead. This is another slippery slope. Domestic violence will morph into 'threats' or 'threatening environment' etc. This bill should be a non-starter.
The issue with DV protection orders are that they are a Civil action, where the burden of proof is Probable Cause for Ex Parte orders, and Preponderance of evidence for petitions that go to trial.
This means that someone can lose a constitutional right based on a Preponderance of Evidence. This is a low burden when it comes to constitutional rights..

The 2nd Amendment is crystal clear. No interference from the government.
Sounds absolute, but okay. Government can't interfere, got it.

If they're not incarcerated then the government has no right to infringe
So the government can interfere?

Someone should add an amendment...no right to vote if charged with felony.
Felons cannot vote while they are incarcerated.
Felons cannot vote while on probation or parole.

Because all the other pieces of paper stop people from committing so many other crimes... add another to the pile?

Gotta throw the book at people who can’t afford good legal representation.

This is how it's supposed to be but as long as they promise to vote democrat it's not anymore. As far as that goes they don't even have to be alive to vote democrat

What is the lowest level of due process that is sufficient to take away someone's rights?

Since so many on this forum seem to believe that domestic violence is a myth, I suggest that women purchase firearms and learn to use them responsibly and accurately. Then when their domestic partners get out of hand, they can whip those pistols out and defend themselves against abuse, if necessary.

I don't think anyone has suggested DV is a myth. And yes, women should arm themselves.

That would mean people like Trump couldn’t possess a firearm because they was merely charged.

Felonies already remove one's ability to possess firearms. frick this gay earth

Horrible proposal. It also really seems it could lead to more harm than good; what's stopping a potential abuser from falsely claiming DV against someone to ensure any method of self defense is taken away, so that they can then actually commit DV?
