In addition, her father was a Democrat precinct captain, which in Chicago, almost assuredly meant there was money under the table.
The Robinsons weren’t necessarily well off, but they certainly weren’t poor, either. You’ve been sold a bill of goods.

Neither Michelle nor Barack "grew up poor."
Having to work for a living does not make you poor. Almost certainly, that makes you middle class.
Poor is government assistance. Two parents working (like Michelle, for sure)? Middle class.
Her story is intriguing because of the complex layers, certainly. She (and her brother) going to Princeton at a transitional time for the country, her diverse ethnic/racial background (e.g., she has a cousin who is a black rabbi), but she did not "come up hard" or "grow up poor."

LMFAO!Did ya ever hang out or know any basketball players in HS?
Not sure what you think a "burnout" is but the basketball players I knew in HS were HUGE pot heads and also sold weed.Their capacity to smoke was legendary.
They were damn good as well.Almost won state and one guy made it to the NBA.
