Louisiana lawmakers advanced a bill Wednesday that would protect teachers who refuse to use students’ preferred gender pronouns — even when students have their parents’ permission to identify as another gender.

The House Education Committee also voted in favor of a measure, dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” by critics, that prohibits discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity during class or extracurricular activities. Gov. Jeff Landry, who has claimed some educators promote “radical” ideas in the classroom, is widely expected to sign the bills if they reach his desk.

Louisiana lawmakers quietly advance two controversial bills as severe weather hits the state

One of the pieces of legislation is similar to a Florida law that critics have dubbed as a “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which broadly bars teachers from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation in public school classrooms.

The other measure would require public school teachers to use the pronouns and names that align with the gender students were assigned at birth.

It should punish teachers who do, it's an abuse of children.

controversial

How very strange to describe a practice that has been in effect for nearly 100% of human existence as "controversial."

Shouldn't the fly-by-night choose your gender fad be the controversial thing here?

They “quietly passed two bills”. Exactly how was it different from passing other bills?

The fact that a bill needs to be passed by the government to allow teachers to NOT play make believe is fricking insane

The irony is the liberal teachers can still participate in the delusion. It just protects the people who don’t want to participate in it.

I remember a published stat back in the 90’s that something like 0.0125% or less (may have been 0.0025%) are born with both genitalia and physicians used to choose one. Now they can use various imaging techniques to help discern internally the dominant gender and/or use DNA (chromosomal abnormalities can still render imaging a good diagnostic tool).

Landry is doing a lot to harm teachers. This is one of those stupid irrelevant topics that he is pushing to be more like DeSantis

Also need dismissal and criminal penalty for those radial teachers who teach radical gender issues.

This, what an insane world.

I remember sometime back, a substitute teacher was on fox, the school said her services would not be needed because she refused to recognize a child who was identifying as a cat, meow for roll call. She left the classroom to go to the pricipal to complain.

Fox reporter said, they got rid of you for that, teacher responded, nah "I started barking at her when she left to see the principal"

I would love a bill like this. For a few years I called everyone by their last name to avoid trouble and calling Heather / Steve.
