While speaking to reporters on Friday, 2020 Democratic presidential nominee former Vice President Joe Biden stated that the replacement for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should not be nominated until after the election, stating that “the voters should pick the president and the president should pick the justice for the Senate to consider. This was the position the Republican Senate took in 2016, when there were almost 10 months to go before the election. That’s the position the United States Senate must take today.”

Biden said, “[T]here is no doubt, let me be clear, that the voters should pick the president and the president should pick the justice for the Senate to consider. This was the position the Republican Senate took in 2016, when there were almost 10 months to go before the election. That’s the position the United States Senate must take today. And the election’s only 46 days off. I think the fastest justice ever confirmed was 47 days, and the average is closer to 70 days. And so, they should do this with full consideration and that is my hope and expectation what will happen.”

Trump is President until Jan 2021 and the Senate is Republican until 2021. Biden needs a new set of cue cards.

Yeah essentially what this fool is saying is that a President only has 3 years in which to discharge court nomination duties. The 4th year in which the election is held is a state of suspension of Presidential duties, obligations and powers.

God, she really did die at the MOST in opportune time possible. A month sooner, and we nominate and fight. A month later, ok, gotta let it slide because the election takes priority. But she is literally right at the tipping point.

Then again, they've probably had her in a freezer for two months.

How fast can the senate get the nomination approved? If they can do it in a months or less , then Trump could make his nomination after he wins on Election Day. Then when Biden wins 6 weeks later the nominee will be in place to confirm Trump as the Presidential election winner.

Most of my twitter feed is “ repubs = hypocrite”

Yes McConnell refused to take a vote on Obama’s nomination but guess what....he had the votes to make that call

Guess what? He has the votes now...

Wasn't the clear difference the involvement of a lame duck President? As in one way or another a new President would be forthcoming?

I dunno. I'm conflicted on this kind of. I just got through with a post in different thread that stood for the proposition that the voters elect a President for solid 4 year terms at a time. Not 3 years and 10 or 11 months. So I really don't know. Er, I do know that the situation with Obama and Garland is behind us now. And whatever one may think of that situation, it shouldn't affect one's view on this current matter which is that Trump is Constitutionally obligated to discharge his Presidential duties up until the last second of his current term. Meaning he's obligated to fill this vacancy.
