Biden Tells Exxon To Start Paying Its Taxes

With the U.S. Administration growing more desperate by the week as gasoline prices breach $5 per gallon in the United States, President Biden is now taking aim at individual oil and gas companies—namely, ExxonMobil.
A Biden statement attempting to address May inflation data contained harsh words—both for the oil industry as a whole and Exxon specifically.
"Why aren't they drilling? Because they make more money not producing more oil," he said. "Exxon, start investing and start paying your taxes."
The President also said that they would make sure everyone knew how much Exxon was profiting. "Exxon made more money than God last year."
To be precise, Exxon's net profit was $23 billion in 2021, making up for the $22.4 billion loss the year prior. Exxon's 2021 profit came in behind Apple, Berkshire Hathaway, Alphabet, Microsoft, JP Morgan Chase, Meta Platforms, Amazon, and Bank of America—and barely eeked out a win over the Federal National Mortgage Association, Fannie Mae.
On the issue of taxes, Exxon’s income taxes for Q1 2022 alone were $2.8 billion dollars, with full year 2021 income taxes at $7.6 billion, according to Macrotrends and CSI Market.
Biden’s anti-oil statement follows a similar one from Thursday, where deputy director of the National Economic Council Bharat Ramamurti told CNN in a phone interview that "It's outrageous that oil and gas companies are able to take advantage and make four times the profits that they made when there wasn't a war.” When asked about the potential for the White House to back a proposal for a windfall profit tax, Ramamurti said that they were “open to lots of different ideas. We realize there is a problem here we need to tackle.”

My thoughts:
1- What does Exxon have to do with inflation, since that apparently was the question?
2- Exxon made $23B in profits in 2021, but LOST a little over $22B in 2020. No mention of that by the President?
3- Amazon made more money than Exxon last year, AND made over $25B in profit in 2020, a year when government shut down small businesses. How are they not seen as "evil" and using government shutdowns to take advantage of consumers and to put other companies out of business?
Not that I believe the President should target Amazon either, but both have benefited from shitty situations and disasters, and both might say at the hands of decisions by politicians. This guy is no leader, but we all already knew that. He HAS to target oil & gas right now because $5/gal gas with midterm elections spells disaster for his party.

Biden’s illiterate voting base will believe every word that comes out of his mouth.

I thought Putin was to blame for gas prices? I’m confused

Exxon has nothing to do with inflation what so ever.
The green 2030 initiative and the regs that have been imposed on the energy industry have everything to do with increases in gas prices and their unwillingness to invest in new capacity.
Biden and the WEF are basically holding a gun to their head telling them to go green then going on camera and acting like it’s their fault as energy costs explode and we head into a summer with rolling blackouts.

Biden’s failures are so fast and furious, he needs a scapegoat the low iq morons on the left will believe.

Because democrats always need a Boggy Man , it’s what happens when your policies suck , and all you have to depend on is people’s emotional vote .

It would be pretty easy for that dumbfrick to have one of his advisors look up what Exxon pays in taxes. It's not like it's a secret.

Easy answers to all three - Biden and the democrat party are waging war on oil companies, and thus a defacto war on working consumers. They've been very clear about it, it's not hidden. Bezos, as Wapo owner and supporter of shamelessly biased pro-Biden journalism, is part and parcel of their strategy, so he is rewarded.

It's like when Warren Buffet said he paid less taxes than his secretary. Bold face lie. Buffet might pay less percentage than his secretary. But, that is because dividends are taxed less that salaries.

Because crushing oil and promoting “green” energy is the left’s religion.

23b in profit....
On what revenue, generally Exxon runs about 10 pct profit, fairly low compared to others.
Factor in the equipment and facilities it takes to make stuff worth that much.
